GREAT recipe, so easy, so good. I used 8 chicken thighs with skin removed, added some sliced carrots and celery to the chicken while it was simmering and used two cans of cream of chicken soup and one can of cream of mushroom soup instead of the cream of celery called for in the original recipe. My family loved it!!! This will definitely make it into our regular recipe lineup. A WINNER!

This is a good basic recipe. and yes. I altered it too! I used chicken breasts, boiled the chicken in 1 can (box) of chicken broth and water depending on how many I'm serving. I used 1 can of cream of chicken and 1 can of cream of celery. Also used the canned biscuits, didn't add any veggies - just a personal preference. It came out great. My sis-in-law has a similar recipe but she adds a dash of tobasco and some Tony Chachere's which adds a tiny kick, but not too noticeable! Enjoy!

This was really good! The only thing I did different was use chicken breast instead of thighs and added 3 table spoons of butter. I made it during the day and just put it in the crock pot on low until I was ready to serve it. It turned out perfect!

I loved this recipe because it was so simple, but I did have to add some flour and milk mixture to it to make it thicker. I prefer a thicker sauce... Thanks for this easy recipe!

I got a lot of great ideas from the other reviews and did a mix of a few suggestions. I used 2 cans of Swanson's chicken broth and added some minced garlic (about 6 cloves), minced onion (half an onion), parsley, basil, a few bay leaves, black pepper and garlic salt (I was pretty generous with this as it seemed to really bring the flavor to it's best....maybe about 2-3 TBS) and boiled the chicken in that for about 20 min. After I took out the chicken I added a can of: cream of celery, cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, one can of water and one can of sweet peas (drained; I like them better than frozen) to the pot and simmered that while I cut up the chicken. Then added the chicken & biscuits from a can. This was soooooo tasty and delicious. My whole family loves it! :)

Very good recipe, will make again. Family loved it and fought over the leftovers. Even my husband who said He did like that, after tasting it ate 2 servings. I did a few modification; used a rotisserie chicken. Boiled covering it with water. When falling apart take it out of the broth deboned after cooled enough. So ended up using at least double the water called for and it was actually broth. I also used 2 cans of buttermilk biscuits. I did uses the 2 cans of cream of celery soup. As i said the meal was a pleaser with my family.

I didn't really follow the recipe given. I took everyone else's suggestions. My husband said that the meal was restaurant quality, and he knows his southern foods! My changes were as follows: 2 cans chicken broth, 1 can cream of chicken soup, 1 can cream of celery soup, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, package of 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, 1/8 of an onion, minced, 1 Tblsp. butter, 1.5 cans Pillsbury buttermilk biscuits. Combine soups in a crock pot and turn on high heat. Melt the butter in a frying pan and sautee the onions. Add chicken to onions and butter. Cook all the way through. Cut chicken in small pieces and add to crock pot. Start pinching off and flouring thumb-sized pieces of biscuits. The flour keeps them from sticking together and also thickens the broth. Add big can of biscuits first. Wait 20 minutes, then flour and add the can of five biscuits, making sure the dough is small. As the dumplings cook, they will plump. Too big of pieces leads to a doughy, uncooked center. Let cook on high for about an hour to an hour and a half. Turn on low for another 15 minutes, then serve! I did not add peas and carrots to mine. That is optional.

This was much better than expected! I used 3 pieces of boneless breast chicken, and I put two chicken bullion cubes in with the water. I only had two cans cream of chicken which looked odd at first but ended up being creamy thick and delicious. I added in black pepper, salt, and all seasoning and next time I will leave out the salt. I had mixed vegetables on the side, but mixing them in would really add a little something. The biscuits I used were Pillsbury Grands and I didn't have room in the pot to put in all of them. Overall, I will definitely make this again! The boyfriend absolutely loved it!

Meh- this was okay but didn't impress anyone. It filled our stomachs but I wouldn't make it again without a lot of additions. We thought it needed a lot more flavor. Thanks anyway, it is a good base to start with.

This is excellent for a quick chicken and dumplings. I prefer homemade dumplings, of course, but this recipe is 99% perfect and takes less than half as long to make. It is a staple at our house- we have it at least once a month. Thanks for sharing!!

This was tasty. I completely changed the recipe to suit my tastes, but I'll tell you how I did it in case you're wondering. =) I sliced three medium sized boneless/skinless chicken breasts into about three pieces each and put them in a big pot with enough water to cover them about an inch. I threw in three chicken boullion cubes, two spoons of diced garlic, a few shakes of parsley, oregano, pepper, and garlic salt. I brought it to a boil and let it cook about 7 minutes. While it was cooking, I took premade dough (I think I used albertsons buttermilk brand) and cut each biscuit in half, and folded it over with dried parsley rolled into it. (I just used the flat end of the knife to press some parsley in and folded them over.) Then I took the chicken out and let it cool, added the two celery soup to the water mix (I didn't drain any at all) and used a whisk to break it up, keeping it on medium heat: just almost boiling / near boiling. After cutting up all the chicken into bite sized pieces, I put it back in, let it boil for a min or two to finish cooking the chicken (pieces were almost done, just a bit of pink left) and then added the biscuits, tearing them in half as I went. I let it cook, stirring it now and again, for about ten minutes maybe, while I did clean up. ... The boys had never had chicken and dumplings before, and they LOVED this. I think it had good flavor and was very easy / low cost, since I'll use the chicken for another meal too. Thank you so much for sharing!

I did not care for this recipe. I'm used to true homemade chicken and dumplings. This tasted like canned soup and the biscuits were gummy. I know it cooked long enough but still gummy. Very disappointed in all the positive reviews.
