This soup was great! I only changed it by adding cumin vs oregano (a suggestion from other reviews) and adding more chicken broth. My 2 yo twins even loved it.

This way really good, fast, and easy. Like other reviewers, I used cumin instead of oregano and only half an onion. I also used 2 cans of stock instead of condensed and water. I left out the hominy and used two cans of black beans. It was really good and filling.

This was GREAT! I made it just like the recipe but was out of oregano and didn't add as much chili powder because I was cooking for lots of kids. We also squeezed some lime juice in our individual bowls. We all loved it! Thanks!

This soup is awesome and one of my family's favs! The only change I make to this is using one cup of rice instead of hominy. I just use the quick-cooking rice and add it right to the soup to cook. I make this all the time in the winter. It is very light and flavorful!

This recipe gets a five for taste. I added cumin, paprika, and coriander (kept the oregano). I simmered the tomatoes, chicken stock beans, chicken, onions, garlic, chilies, and spices for one hour. At the last minute, I added fresh corn off the cob, but omitted the hominey. Garnished with shredded cheese. Next time (yes there will be a next time) I think I'll add tortillas, since it is tortilla soup. Thanks for the delicious recipe.

Delicious! I also found that you can just add chopped avocado to the whole pot at the end, and it holds up just fine. Easier (and less messy) than adding it to each bowl!

Great recipe. Made modifications to suit personal tastes and it is DELICIOUS. Added half teaspoon of cumin, omitted hominy, beans, water, doubled the chicken broth, finished with some lime juice. Served with a dollop of sour cream, some diced avocado, and crushed chips.

I made numerous changes and came up with a quick dinner that is quite tasty and uses ingredients we all tend to have on hand. I started by using a full pound of boneless, skinless chicken breast cut into strips. I browned it with garlic and seasonings and then shredded it in my food processor. I doubled the onion, increased the chicken broth to 4 cans (eliminating the water), substituted 1 cup of medium salsa for the tomatoes (eliminating the oregano, cilantro and chilis). I also cut the chili powder to a half-teaspoon and eliminated the hominy. I'm afraid it was a completely different recipe by the time I finished but it was quite tasty and much easier to make with fewer ingredients.

Excellent recipe! My family LOVES it. I will defiantly be making it again soon. Next time I will leave out the cilantro and let everyone add their own.

AMAZING! I added about 2 cups more water because I like my soups more watery. The second time I made this I omitted the chicken and instead put in an extra can of corn.

Loved it! I took this to a couples dinner party where we all bring a recipe and vote for our favorites. Our chicken tortilla soup won 1st place out of 12 other dishes! Next time I make it though, I'll put in about half of the chicken broth that the recipe calls for so it's a little thicker - more like a chili than a soup.

I love this soup and so does everyone I've made it for. I've been cooking for one for years and have had trouble adjusting to cooking for my boyfriend and his 15 year old son. This is a recipe that is easy and fast to make and that everyone enjoys!

This was very good, I didn't have white hominy or corn and it turned out delicious, I wonder if it would be even better with them?

This is a great recipe that I've made several times now. I think the cilantro is an essential part of this recipe. I usually top with chopped avocados and shredded cheese if I have it on hand. It's also great with cornbread muffins to soak up every drop!

Excellent recipe. My kids liked it (even the one that doesn't care for Mexican food) and asked for seconds. A mistake I made is that I didn't have crushed tomatoes on hand and so I used a can of diced tomatoes. Next time I'll make sure I have crushed tomatoes. My husband really liked the oregano but I think I'll try using cumin next time like others have suggested. This recipe is definitely a keeper!

In order to make it an actual "healthy" soup, I replaced the canned items with fresh ones... such as: make a puree from fresh tomatoes to replace the canned tomatoes, boiled black beans instead of canned beans, used real chicken broth instead of canned broth. Trust me, it makes a big difference in the taste when you use fresh ingredients!
