This recipe was a hit with my family & guests! I don't care for hominy so I omitted it. I added 1/2 tsp. of cumin and used tortilla strips instead of crushed tortilla chips. I will make this again and again! This freezes well by putting in individual sized containers for lunches. :)

This is a great soup! I make a few modifications. One, no hominy. Two, no oregano but rather cumin. I also cook it for about an hour to let the flavors blend more. I make this soup on a regular basis, and not only is it tasty but healthy as well!

Since moved far away from my favorite Mexican food restaurant that served great tortilla soup. I was forced to try and make my own. This recipe is even better then the restaurants. This is now one of my staple recipes. I add about a teaspoon of liquid smoke to give the soup a smoked chicken taste. Since the soup did turn out a bit thick for me, i added an extra can of chicken broth.

Absolutely delicious! This soup has great flavor and is very filling. I did add about 1/2 tablespoon of cumin. I didn't have any hominy, but I added a can of great northern beans and a can of Mexicorn, in addition to the cup of corn. Served it with shredded cheese, sour cream, and warm flour tortillas. Thanks!

My family loves this soup. I have made it several times, with minor changes each time. Sometimes I vary the bean, adding red or evey blackeye peas, more or less corn, omit green chiles, just depends on what is in the pantry. It is all good. I have even added dried cilantro when I have been out of fresh and that works great, too. Try it in your crockpot.

Delicious, but I made several changes based on the recommendations of others. Used 3 cans of chicken broth but eliminated the water. Substituted cumin for oregano. Left out the hominy. And simmered for an hour to let the flavors blend together better. The result was fantastic, especially when topped with sour cream and diced green onion. The only change I'd make? Add more corn - a cup didn't go very far, with the extra broth.

Excellent Soup!! My Mexican friend had me add some Mexican Oregano, cumin, squeeze of lime, and exclude the hominy. I cooked the chicken, onions, and garlic in the soup pot until soft. Then I added the other ingredients...broth last. I cooked it for about an hour. Full of flavor!!! Mmm!

Loved this soup!! I tweeked just a bit based on other reviews. I added more garlic (4 cloves), omitted the water and only used chicken broth. I added 1 tsp of cumin along with the oregano and the chili powder.

I love soup, and this is great! I made two minor changes; I partially cooked the chicken with the onion and garlic and let it simmer with the broth for a bit longer. Also, I used a 15 oz can of crushed tomatoes and a jar of homemade salsa for the balance. Very hearty and the kids loved it.

This soup was very good. I did make minor adjustments like chicken broth for the water and cumin for the oregano like others suggested but other than that I followed the recipe to a T. It was very filling and only 2 WW points per cup.

I'd give this a 4.5 if I could. I followed the advice of several reviewers to add more broth, which I definitely recommend. I kept a big measuring cup full of my bouillon mix next to the skillet, and added as it cooked down. Came out very tasty, and the toppings definitely make the dish! Thanks for sharing this easy and filling recipe!

Delicious! We did it again last night, with beef broth and ground venison (you could use hamburger, too.) and that was great as well! I love this recipe - thank you!!!

This recipe is a "keeper". I love Tortilla Soup and this was a tasty version that was easy to make. I added two cans of chicken broth and deleted the water. I omitted the hominy and used fresh Hatch green chilis instead of canned. I wasn't sure about the black beans but they were good in this recipe.

So good! But I recommend these tweaks: use 1 heaping Tbsp chili powder, 1 tsp oregano, and 1-2 tsp cumin. LIME juice is a bright, refreshing addition. Fresh cilantro is a must. The toppings really make the dish. Also, I added several dashes of hot sauce and a Tbsp of pickled jalapeno for kick (the green chiles are not spicy). Idea: save your canned chicken broth. Boil the chicken breasts in enough water to cover plus a couple inches until no longer pink in the middle. Then just use that liquid for your stock! No sodium, no extra cost.

I was really looking forward to making this recipe, but was disappointed. I didn't feel like it had any flavor, even though I added additional seasonings. It was easy, but I won't make again. Thanks anyway!
