This was amazing. I omitted the water and it made the soup richer. My family loved it

This soup is absolutely awesome! My husband said "honey, another home run!". I followed the recipe as written to a "T". I wouldn't change a thing and don't think it's necessary. I read many of the reviews and some added extra liquid to make it more "soupy". IMO it's plenty soupy, adding additional liquid would make it way too thin as it wasn't really that thick to begin with. Just be sure to use the exact measurements etc. My friend recommended this to me and says she never changes a thing. I can't wait to have this again tonight for dinner!!!

Super yummy! I upped the chicken broth to 3 cans (instead of the water). I opted for 1/4 cumin instead of oregano, added a good squeeze of fresh lime juice as well as about a teaspoon of white vinegar to give it more zip. Oh, and about a cup of good salsa instead of the green chiles and only used 14 oz of crushed tomatoes as a result. Delicious!

I made my own stock and used the chicken in the soup. It was really good. It is a keeper. Also I crushed a 1/2 of a cup of tortillas up in the soup for the last 10 minutes.

Great tortilla soup! Just like the mexican restaurants! I made this for my boyfriend and he couldn't stop eating it! Like a few suggestions before... i also added 4 cans of broth (roughly 50 oz) and 14 oz H2O and it worked PERFECTLY!

I loved this soup! I made my own stock with a leftover chicken carcass. I added boneless breasts for more meat. I didn't cook the chicken with the garlic, but added the garlic to the broth. Other than that, the only things I did differently were to add a can of rinsed black beans and chopped cilantro. Delicious and easy with most items already in pantry. Update: so sorry, I rated this one by mistake. It should've been for the Chicken Tortilla Soup V recipe. They are similar so I'll try this one too since it looks good.

This was delicious! I took it to a dinner party and got a ton of compliments. Everyone asked for the recipe. I made the following changes according to other user suggestions... 4 cloves of minced garlic instead of 3... cumin instead of oregano... 2 cans of chicken broth plus one chicken boullion cube instead of condensed broth & water... a full can of corn and no hominy. I also added some black pepper, cayenne pepper & a tsp. of brown sugar. Definitely include all the toppings, they really make it spectacular!

5 STARS! Love this. For some reason this came out a bit too-soupy for me, so I just ladled this over brown rice. Then I added a dollop of sour cream, some red onions, some fresh cilantro and a tortilla chip or two:) WE love this. We also use Rotel HOT tomoatos. We love ht heat. Try this, you won't be disappointed!

I loved this receipe...I live in Texas and if we even think its cold we want something warm! This was the best just the way it was, but I omitted the hominy(hubby hates it) and added some citrus zing with lime and cilantro and for the monterrey jack we used Muenster cheese...to die for!!!

We made this dish for our Super Bowl get together. It was a hit! We served it along with pepperjack/cheddar quesadillas, cornbread, and chips and salsa. Great menu! The only modifications that I made were to substitute 2 tsp. of cumin instead of oregano, ommitted the corn and hominy (my husband is not a fan), and doubled the amount of chicken broth. We will make again.

Very nice flavor to this soup. I've made once with fresh cilantro and once with dried. Much better with fresh. I also shred the chicken which I think makes a better texture to the soup. And I use an extra can of corn in place of hominy.

This was very good. I served it in a crockpot at a potluck lunch; they every bit and asked for the recipe. As suggested by others I used cumin instead of oregano, added a spoonful of lemon juice (since I was out of lime) and offered sour cream and fresh cilantro along with the other proposed toppings. I think it really helped to make it the day before and warm it for a few hours in the crockpot before serving.

This was really good. I did make some changes out of necessity. I didn't have any black beans so I used some chile beans undrained. Out of corn so I used a small can of mexicorn. I also added an extra can of broth and added a can of diced tomatoes. Because of the spiciness of the chile beans I reduced the amount of chile powder to about a teaspoon.

Awesome..did as other suggested..used 3 cans of broth, omitted the water, used cumin instead of the oregano, and mexicorn instead of hominy. Used fresh chilis and a whole can of corn semi-drained. only gave it 4 stars because of the changes but its amazing, i'm having the leftovers for lunch now!
