Excellent recipe. My kids liked it (even the one that doesn't care for Mexican food) and asked for seconds. A mistake I made is that I didn't have crushed tomatoes on hand and so I used a can of diced tomatoes. Next time I'll make sure I have crushed tomatoes. My husband really liked the oregano but I think I'll try using cumin next time like others have suggested. This recipe is definitely a keeper!

In order to make it an actual "healthy" soup, I replaced the canned items with fresh ones... such as: make a puree from fresh tomatoes to replace the canned tomatoes, boiled black beans instead of canned beans, used real chicken broth instead of canned broth. Trust me, it makes a big difference in the taste when you use fresh ingredients!

Excellent! You must use fresh corn and top with the avacado. We've had this many times since I found this recipe. Love the hominy too. Thanks!

It was good, except it was too thick for me, I like a little more water in my soup, especially when you add the tortilla chips soak up alot of the juices.

This turned out great! I made the recipe exactly as written except for the cilantro. I didn't have it on hand, but I will definitely add it next time. I will also add more chick en and pull it rather than cube it for a meatier texture for the soup. Contrary to what other people said, I enjoyed that it was more soupy. Once you added the tortilla chips to the top, they soaked up the juices. I also added a spoonfull of sourcream before serving. Yum!

Hubby LOVES this soup. I add a chopped hot pepper when sauteeing the onion and garlic. Adds some kick. Freezes well (without garnishes, of course).

One of best soup recipes I've found here! I only changed a few things though- used a can of Cream of Chicken with Herbs + 1 can of water instead of chicken broth so it would be a little creamier. Also, I used a can of chili beans instead of just adding the chili powder, a can of Rotel instead of the can of chilies. Last, I added way more cilantro than suggested- probably a cup or more. This one goes great with a piece of sweet corn bread.

This was quite simple and tasty. My husband wasn't a big fan at first, but was a convert trying it the next day. Way better after sitting and reheating, next time I'll make it the day before I serve it.

I thought this recipe was OK, it was the cilantro that I loved. If I make this again, I would make it with a hot pepper.

What a keeper! This soup is terrific. The only "changes" I made was to use chicken broth instead of the water, and I doubled the corn as I couldn't find hominy at the market! Regardless, it turned out great - not too spicy, but just right! We will definately be making this one over and over. Thanks!

This recipe was awesome! I made it for my boyfriend and I and he loved it! I did too. We even had a friend over and still had left overs. :) It's a must try!

I served this soup at a recent dinner party and it was a hit! I substituted a can of corn for the hominy and added a can of white beans as well. I served cheese and sour cream on the side. Thanks for a great recipe. I will definitely make again and again!

Holy guacamole! What a winner. I used the leftovers from a roast chicken, and it was perfect. Couldn't find hominy in that size (only the gigantic cans!), so I just increased the amount of corn. Served mine with sliced avocado and lime-flavored tortilla chips. Other than that, I followed the recipe perfectly and couldn't have loved it more. Is sure to become a staple during weeks when we have roast chicken!

I believed the hype and was disappointed. I followed some of the reviews - used cumin instead of oregano, i used chicken broth instead of water, and i used 1 cup of corn instead of white hominy. This recipe was expensive to make, and the finished product was bland and tasteless. A complete waste of time.

This soup was good, but it didn't live up to my expectations. It did have nice flavor, and I serve it with chips, sour cream, avocado, and cilantro. I's make Taco Soup II over this anyday.

I roasted my own chicken and made broth. Added @4 cups of water with the broth and a few boullion cubes as well. I upped the spice quantities accordingly. I also ended up sprinkling in 1/2 pack of taco seasoning mix. I used fire roasted corn from Trader Joe's and the whole can of hominy. Definitely use fresh cilantro. My only advice to let it all simmer on low for 30 minutes BEFORE you add chicken and cilantro. Everyone loved this and asked for the recipe.

Excellent soup that the whole family likes. I also used cumin instead of oregano, and substituted tomato sauce for crushed. I thought it was too thick, so I used 28 ounces of water instead of 1 1/2 cups. Thanks for a great recipe!

This is a really quick and easy recipe. I boiled the chicken in water and used the broth in replacement for 1 1/4 cups of water in addition to using regular chicken broth. Other than that, I followed the recipe as is and it turned out great. It even tastes great after freezing. Yummy! Thank you Star for sharing the recipe.
