I was skeptical because this is the first time I've tried making bars without butter, but they turned out nice and VERY chewy. Unfortunately my boyfriend didn't like them at all - he said they tasted like flour. And for some reason a hard layer of sugar formed on the bottom during baking. I love walnuts, so I enjoyed them anyway. If I make them again, I'll cut back on the baking soda because they rose quite a bit and I like a more dense bar. They weren't the best I've tasted, but I give them a thumbs up for ease of preparation and chewiness!
