The first time I made this I followed directions exactly. Cake was excellent and everyone loved it. The next time I used juice from jar of marachino cherries ( 3/4 cup) and made up difference with water. WOW. BTW, I always save juice froom jar of marachino cherries to colour frosting, etc

I was a little skeptical when I read that you didn't mix any powdered sugar into the cream cheese. Thought it may be too strong of a flavor. Was pleasantly surprised at the way it came out. Quite a bit of work & steps but well worth the trouble.

Excellent! Next time I will make without the cherry pie topping on top though.

My son begs for this cake every birthday, he just turned 17! Made it today for him! Thanks for the great recipe! I like to serve it using two cans of pie filling, we all fight over the cherries!

Oh my, this is yummy! The only thing I modified was the length of time I left it in the fridge before I frosted it. 30 minutes didn't quite cut it. I extended it to an hour. This tasted fantastic! I will definitely make it again.

My son asked for a Cherry Cake for his 4th birthday, so we decided on this one. Oddly enough he also asked for whipped cream and cream cheese frosting and I didn't think I'd be able to do both, but this fit perfectly. He's not a big cake eater, but he devoured this. It got great reactions upon presentation and taste. I do agree that it is almost like a cherry shortcake, kinda mixed with cherry cheesecake, but so good. I would absolutely make this again if asked, it was so easy. I took it out of the pan for presentation since it was for a party, but I would not recommend that because it was so moist I had a hard time doing so.

Just didn't have the flavor that I thought it would. This was more like Cherry Shortcake with Jello in it. Wouldn't make this again, would prefer more flavor.
