This chowder was yummy-tummy! I like things spice and this was splendidly spice, very nice flavor and a great mix of textures. I was sceptical about the gravy mix, but it was perfect. I thought Velvetta? What? I didn't even know they still made it, let alone in a Mexican variety. But boy did it turn out delicious! I followed the recipe down to the T, but I would like to try some of the variations. I did add bacon to my husbands and he loved it! Great recipe, thanks for sharing!

The soup was good and will make again, however think I will include bacon to give it extra flavor.

My family and I enjoyed it very much. I used 1% milk and it still came out rather creamy, yet with fewer calories than your standard cream-based soups. I didn't give it five stars because I think it needed an extra can of corn. Another bonus would be a little meat in it - I will add crumbled bacon next time. Overall a great recipe!

I don't add the celery or the chiles (not a fan)but I do add sliced ham or chopped bacon. I don't use the Mexican style cheese, just regular Velveeta. Excellent! I think I end up putting in more potatoes, but I then add a bit more broth. This is a regular at our house in the cold months.

Good and will make again. Followed recipe except used shredded cheddar; didn't want to buy the Velveeta. Had to cook cubed potatoes longer than 25 minutes. Husband loved it with saltines!

YUMM-O! When I first looked at this recipe, it didn't look like anything special. But, wow it's so delicious! The only things I did differently were add garlic to the onion, and I did half creamed corn (which I've never bought in my life!) Don't tell anyone there are green chiles in this , and they'll be none the wiser, but they'll be asking you what that special kick is !

My husband absolutely adores this soup! I made some changes... 1) I sauteed 3-4 strips of bacon in the pan before adding the onions and celery 2) instead of the can of chiles I added one seeded, finely diced jalapeno 3) we had some extra velveeta so I threw some of that in to kick up the cheese flavor 4) I added about 2 tbps cornstarch dissolved in water to get the thicker consistency my husband likes. Served with some sliced french bread for dipping, he claims this is his new favorite home-cooked meal! Thanks!

This recipe has the rich creamy taste of soups that use heavy cream without the heavy cream! Will make again.

This was delicious! I made it following several of the suggestions- using half and half, adding carrots, using cream corn and frozen corn, and using Monterrey Jack and Mexican cheese instead of Velveeta. I also made it vegetarian by using vegetable stock and vegetarian gravy. The recipe made a huge pot- about 10 servings!

I love it! I've made this several times, making it exactly as written except I salt to taste and use less cheese. Staple soup recipe, indeed.

Great chowder, but I have kicked it up a bit by adding Tyson Grilled Chicken Strips. It then becomes a meal in a bowl.

Left out the processed cheese, added a can of corn and a can of creamed corn as per other suggestions. One of the best chowders I've ever had. Serve it with shredded cheese and pepper to taste. Awesome!

Fantastic - I didn't have celery, so I substituted it for zuchini and celery seed. Also added sliced ham that I browned first and it really enriched the flavor.

All my friends love this recipe. I use a Salsa Con Queso chip dip instead of the mexican cheese food since I have still yet to find mexican cheese food.

This is so easy to make and it tastes delicious. Its perfect for a chilly day! I add a bit of celery to the soup to give it a bit more color and add an extra can of corn because..well..I like corn. :P

Before trying this recipe, I've never made any type of chowder before. The only thing I added was a little more potatoes and I added some crispy bacon when serving. I've tried it with regular 2% milk and also 1/2 milk and 1/2 half & Half. Because I added extra potatoes, using just milk works well. The half & Half makes it too thick for me.
