Very good soup although my meatballs didn't hold their shape for some reason. I think my mixture was too wet. Next time I don't think I'll bother with making meatballs, I'll just brown the ground beef. I did use a block of velveeta instead of cheese whiz. My family really enjoyed it. Makes a nice hearty soup.

Everyone seemed to enjoy this very much. We used salsa con queso for the processed cheese which seemed a better idea than cheese whiz but still came out with a slightly odd taste. With better quality cheese, I believe this to be a winner.

Wonderfully cheesy soup! I used season-all instead of salt and cooked the meatballs through before adding to the soup. I did grind some black pepper into this as well. It could have used a little salt in the broth as the potatoes would have had a better flavor. This tasted great and wasn't spicy. I used Frank's Red Hot Sauce and block Velveeta cheese, cubed. Both the hungry teen and I added some ground cayenne to our bowls as we prefer more spice, but my husband thought it was fine as is. We all gave this 5 stars. Thanks Ione for the great soup!

My boyfriend loved it. i wasn't really digging it. i didn' care to much for the taste of the cheese food. but i used generic cheese because we were on a slim budget that week. i'll try again and try a differnt cheese. afterall, he liked it =)

Really tasty. Needs some salt and pepper. Would definitely season the meatballs with garlic and some salt next time and make as small as possible. Also added a lot more cheese than suggested.

I cannot understand how this recipe received such rave reviews. I will admit I used pre-made meatballs to make this easier for me on a weeknight meal, however my daughter would not eat this, and I managed to finish off a small bowl of this. This ended up being more like a thick stew as opposed to a soup. That did not bother me in the least, I prefer a thicker chunky type soup/stew. This recipe SOUNDED good, I thought that perhaps the idea of a cheesy meatball soup WAS a good idea for dinner tonight, but I'm just as glad my friend opted out of joining us for dinner, I would have been embarrassed to serve this. The appearance was not good and the texture was weird and not at all pleasing on the palate. The Cheez Whiz may have been the fatal flaw in this recipe. I just don't know. The potatoes turned almost to mush before the carrots and celery were finished cooking. The caricature of this soup as a “cheeseburger” was totally inaccurate and did not at all resemble a cheeseburger, or taste anything like a cheeseburger. I thought the hot sauce was a bad addition to this recipe as well, as it gave the whole dish a tang that didn’t enhance the flavor at all and my daughter said she could “feel” on the back of her throat and she did not like that either.

My family loved this recipe! I added some worchestershire sauce to the meatballs and skipped the celery since I am not a big fan. I will definately make this one again and probably double the recipe so we can have leftovers!

I've made many recipes from this site over the years, but this is the first that my husband described as "excellent." I added italian seasoning to the meatballs, omitted the celery, used more carrots and potatoes than the recipe called for and added 5 c. water and 3 bouillon cubes, as well as extra hot sauce. Like other reviewers, I used only half a jar of Cheez Whiz. I'll definitely make this one again!

Husband and kids (10 and 8) loved this recipe. Personally, I could do w/o the meatballs, but the soup was superb. I did make a couple modifications to fit my family's taste. I used boxed processed cheese instead of a jar and I also added some Worcestersire sauce. It really adds flavor. Like another member suggested, I would make the meatballs smaller or maybe even just use ground beef next time.

Delicious cheesy meatball soup! Not too spicy. Easy to make. Excellent flavors! I would add more potatoes next time. Using the queso cheese sauce, which someone else recommended, was an excellent idea.

My teens loved this! I did a couple of time-saver variations - and it only took me 20 minutes to prepare. 1) I used frozen cubed & peeled potatoes that I could just throw in the pot to thaw. 2) I thawed frozen, pre-cooked meatballs in the microwave for 2 minutes before adding to the soup. 3) I used queso cheese instead of plain cheese in a jar, which gave it a little more kick. This will be great in fall and winter as an alternative to chili.

Great recipe for a cold rainy day! I doubled the recipe (feeding 5 boys)and made a few changes. First, I used half the recommended corn and cheese sause. I omited the boullion and salt and added a roll of sage sausage to the ground beef. We like lots of meatballs. I doubled the hot sauce and it still wasn't at all spicy. I also used italian bread crumbs instead of plain (which is why I omited the salt). My boys chowed almost all of this soup and it made alot! I served it with a great french bread recipe I got on this site! This recipe's a keeper!!!

This was very good. A few things I may have done differently are this. 1) It was quite cheesy, I might cut down on it next time. 2) It says to make the meatballs, about an inch big. I would actually make them smaller 1/4 to 1/2 in at most. Very tasty still.

I make this recipe in the slow cooker so everything is ready when I get home from work. I just add the Cheese Whiz and bake the bread and dinner is on the table. easy and delicious.
