This bread was AWESOME. I definitely recommend using fresh grated romano..it definitely adds something. Served this with homemade red sauce and meatballs--yum!

Awesome bread! I changed it up and used parm instead of Romano and added some Italian herbs to it too. Makes my house smell AMAZING and it never makes it to. The dinner table.

Very easy to make! I didn't have Romano cheese so I substituted Parmesan instead. I also only had bread flour on hand so i used that instead. Based on other reviews, I also added italian seasoning and added a 1/4 cup more cheese. Also instead of two loaves, I made one loaf and about a dozen mini bread sticks. Everything turned out yummy and only half of the loaf was left. All the breadsticks were gone! Thanks for the easy to work with recipe! :)

This turned out great the first time. I used bread flour which makes a big difference in quality. I also coated the loaves in olive oil prior to baking so that they would brown without overcooking. Finally, I brushed the tops with butter and sprinkled on sea salt just before they were done. This brought out all of the flavors of the cheese and garlic that other reviewers claimed were missing. (A little salt goes a long way. Use sea salt, as it is less "salty" and brings out flavors better.) This bread was great all by itself and was really satisfying.

This was very good especially w/ pasta and meat sauce to compliment. I added Herb De Provence instead of the garlic salt. Will definitely make again..maybe into buns for sloppy Joe's.

Very good loaves of bread. I didn't have garlic salt so used garlic powder and upped the salt to 1t. The dough was very sticky so I did end up adding maybe a 1/4 cup more of flour. We had this with minestrone soup and it was wonderful. Thanks for the recipe.

Loved this recipe! I hardly changed anything. I used parm cheese instead of romano. I also didn't use the cornmeal. I've had trouble getting yeast doughs to rise in the past so this time i started to pre-heat my oven for 30sec or so and set the dough in the oven to rise. The extra heat helped a ton and the dough is nice and light. Topped with butter at the end and it's delicious. This is my go-to french bread recipe from now on!
