This was a big favorite for mom and kids. We are on a restricted low-fat diet so I substituted Morningstar Farms Meal Starters Grillers Recipe Crumbles for the ground beef and used Velveeta 2% milk instead of regular Velveeta.

This dish turns out very very bland unless you add some seasoning. I used some home made taco seasoning on beef and then sprinkled a bit of it on top of the mac and cheese when it was done - which made it very flavorful. I tasted the mac before I added the seasoning and it just tasted like cheesy cream of chicken soup.

I used a box of shells & cheese instead of macaroni and Velveeta, exchanged cream of mushroom for the cream of chicken, exchanged a can of diced tomatoes for the corn, added a little cheddar, and topped it with some crushed stuffing mix. I also added half an onion to the meat while it was browning. Pretty good, a little "Helper"ish, but a step up I'll admit.

I put my own spin on this as well...I did not include the corn. Instead of keeping half of the cheese for the topping, I included all the cheese in the mixture and instead topped the dish off with mozzarella. This was very good!!

My husband thoroughly enjoyed this recipe! I made some changes, I did the corn on the side, added garlic, and some shredded cheddar as well as the velveeta. Was even better the next day for lunches!

My twist is to omit the soup and just use milk, corn on the side, add some feta cheese and season with garlic, onion, pepper, italian seasoning and top with a mix of bread crumbs and crushed butter crackers before baking! yumm!

Well, I wasn't expecting this to "wow" me, because it's just basically cheeseburger macaroni with corn in it. But I was expecting a little better than what I got. I did use cream of mushroom instead of cream of chicken because...well...it made more sense. I really don't think my disappointment came from that substitution. It was really bland but not bland. Basically, the velveeta was pretty much all I could taste. I added a little beef broth because it was SUPER thick. Tasted it, and it was still very "Velveeta-y", so I added a splash of worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper...still really strong. Sour cream...that toned it down a little. By the time I was finished, the calories and sodium were too ridiculous to compute. Thanks for letting me try, but I don't think I'm going to make again.

This has become one of my favorite dishes and an easy one too. I did alter it a bit by using cream of mushroom soup instead of the cream of chicken and I added beef broth - just enough to make it moist.

It was good, but I had to change it a little. I omitted the corn and changed the cream of Chicken soup to Cream of Mushroom soup. I also added in some shredded cheddar too. My son loved it and my husband liked it.

Even though this looked a lot like the hamburger helper box meal, it did not taste similar. The condensed soup just threw it off, and it didnt work well with the velveeta at all. I didnt add the corn because I was already using corn in a side dish. I just dont think the cream of chicken should be paired with beef. It didnt go well, sorry.

This is a great recipe - very kid friendly. I was looking for a way to make hamburger helper without the box and this is pretty close. I used cream of mushroom soup because that's what I had on hand. I also served corn on the side instead of mixing it in - I'm glad I did. I think next time I'll use a little less cheese and add some beef broth to make it a little more saucy. Overall, very tasty!
