I used left over homeade chili and mixed a can of cheddar cheese soup with the chili before putting it into the dish. If you use Extra Crispy Fast Fries they don't get soggy. Delicious alternative

I pretty much followed the recipe. I did only make a half batch, because it sounds like it is not good the next day. I added fresh garlic and season salt to the beef. In addition, I cooked bell pepper and onions in the meat. It needs something. Just have not put my finger on it. My father loved it. My husband liked the meat. I thought it was okay. The kids picked through it. I do believe that tater tots are the way to go. I was not to crazy about the french fries. I might try it with tomato soup next time. It definitely needs something to make it stay together. Cooling it down makes the meat thicker, but the cheese and fries turned icky when they are cold.

I love this recipe!! I agree you either have to cook the fries separately or give them a jump start or it'll get all soggy. I didn't like the crm of mush soup either so I just doubled up on the cheddar cheese soup. My husband asks for this on a regular basis!

Fairly quick and easy recipe. I took a few suggestions from previous reviews and did a few of my own things and it came out wonderful. While I doing the meat and soup mixture I threw the fries in the oven to bake them to prevent sogginess when they were added to the top of the meat mixture. I fried the meat in with a cut up pepper rather than onion, but added onion powder (someone in my household is an adament onion hater) to still have the onion taste. As someone suggested, I used tomato soup rather than the mushroom, and added an extra 1/2 can of the cheddar. It's a great recipe and I will try adding sour cream and veggies next time as a variation.

This tastes wonderful. I did change some things, First I used minsed Garlic, about a tablespoon. I was just feeding my 2 kids and myself so I only used 1lb of ground beef. I didnt have any cheese soup so I just added a whole can of mushroom soup and a whole bag of shredded cheddar cheese. Put it in a pan, I first fried up the french fries until almost done, then dumped the almost done french fries on top of the meaty cheesey mess, and then baked it at 300 for 20 minutes. It went over VERY VERY well with the kids. I gave it 4 starts because I changed it so much. I cant imagin how cheesey it must be with the can of cheese soup. Thanks for the base! Next time I will add a can of drained crushed tomatoes!

Pretty good recipe. Very easy to make. I used frozen seasoned curly fries for the top, and only used 1lb ground beef and one can cream of chicken, and added fresh cheeses to the sauce pan before adding to the baking pan. I added cheese on the top at the end of baking as well.

Yummmm! I have made this recipe many times. I use a jar of 3-cheese pasta sauce instead of the canned soups. I also season only the top of the fries with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Substituting ground turkey for 1/2 the beef makes for a lower-fat, more economical alternative that is just as tasty.

My family and I thought this was a very delicious & easy-to-make meal. I don't feel this needs change at all. I did bake the fries first as other reviews suggested--I also used seasoned hamburger (when I buy hamburger meat from the store I buy in bulk and divide it up and season it with Beef Burgundy seasoning and freeze). It was sooooooooooooo good! This was the first thing I cooked in a 9x13 dish that completely disappeared the same night! Great recipe--thanks so much!!

I made this exactly to recipe. The only thing anyone in my family enjoyed was eating the cheesy fries off the top. Maybe I’m just a purest, because as far as we were all concerned, cheeseburgers and cheesy fries would have been much better.

Very Good!...I didn't use the mushroom soup but exchanged it for 2 cans of Cheddar cheese soup. My family loves it and I also made it for my daughter's basketball team. Big raves!!!

Oh my yummy goodness! Fantastic recipe. I substituted the mushroom soup for tomato soup and used Nacho Cheese soup. Topped with shredded "taco" cheese as well. What a keeper - when you're not counting calories, that is! Wonderful, thanks for sharing.

We love this recipe! I found no problem adding the fries right on top frozen. I make it often and have made no adjustments to the recipe - comes out just right every time!

Thumbs up! The kids loved it! I cooked the fries first like other comments, until they were crispy. I took it a step further and put a layer of fries on the bottom, and on the top. It's a keeper. Thanks!

This recipe is the best. The only thing I did different was I cut up three small potatoes instead of frozen french fries. My four year old won't eat anything and she ate two helpings. Its easy and takes little time out of my day. Thanks for sharing.

This was really good on a cold evening. I made recipe as written but I used seasoned fries and added extra seasoning to meat per taste. Great comfort food and it was something the kids could cover in ketchup. Thanks for recipe!

Sorry but have to say we won't be making this again. It was ok, but bland. I topped mine with some ranch dressing, DH put on ketchup and my kids even said not to make it again. It was edible so that's why I gave it a 3.

Just "meh" for us. Not bad / Not spectacular. It was a nice change, and topped with mustard made it better for me. I only used 1 lb of beef, seasoned with 1/2 pkg dry onion soup, Worcestershire, garlic, cayenne, and a couple spoonfuls of FF Sour Cream. (Prebaked the Tater Tot "Crowns"). Used tomato soup, instead of mushroom. Topped the cheese layer with a few bacon bits. (This was an awesome recipe to help clean out your cupboards, though!)
