"'I remember enjoying these crispy golden sandwiches at a restaurant when I was a teenager,' writes Darlene Markel of Salem, Oregon. 'After it closed, I came up with this recipe. Now I make a batch and keep them in the freezer, ready to fry at any time. It's like reliving my teen years all over again!'"

I love this! Like a previous reviewer, I didn't bother to freeze it at all. I also just used my deep fryer instead of the oil in a pan. Quite delicious!

I, too, remember eating these at King's when I was growing up in Nebraska (They were also on the menu at Grandmother's Restaurant). This recipe was exactly what I remembered. I used Texas Toast which I think helped to prevent them from being too greasy. I also froze mine for about 3-4 hours which helped as well. I did have to use 3 times as much egg wash and crumbs, but that was probably because of my oversize bread. I like that I can make them ahead of time and freeze them. This will be a great help on busy days. My kids loved them too! Thanks

Yum! These are fabulous! I froze them for a day before I couldn't wait any longer. I agree with the previous reviewer; I don't think you're SUPPOSED to wait a month to eat them after freezing, just that you COULD store them for that long. Great make ahead snacks, this would be perfect for kids for an after school treat. Thank you Darlene!

This was delicious! I think the creator of this recipe meant to state that the sandwiches "can" be frozen up to a month and don't "have" to be frozen to cook. I made the sandwiches and then loosely wrapped them in foil. I stuck them in the freezer for about an hour so that everything firmed up. Then I fried them and enjoyed! I used club crackers instead of saltines, and they were quite yummy.

I am giving this one 5 stars because I don't want to be mean, and I left the sandwiches in the freezer for more than a month. But the taste was kind of stale and my boy would not finish his half. I had good hopes for this recipes as it was a different approach to a sandwich. I will try it again and only leave the sammies in there for a month or less.
