This stuff is amazing! I gave it as Christmas gifts and received several requests for the recipe. I made it according to the recipe and it was perfect! Just the right amount of everything! Better than the "spiced tea" recipe of the 70's!

Great recipe. I love being able to control the amount of spice...and I finally found a use for that dorky little Bullet blender! By the way, I got my spices at a local Asian grocery. The most I paid was $2.50 for 3 ounces of cardamom.

Excellent tea mix recipe. We love it just as it is, but I'm sure to tweak the spices and cut down on the sugar next time I make it just to see if I can improve on it. Thanks for sharing!

All I can say is...MMMMMMM!!!! This is soooo good. I made it with all the spices (header included), 1 3/4c splenda mix, FF French Vanilla creamer, & Lite Original creamer since I wanted to try a little "lighter" version. I mixed it with skim milk and it's absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Now I can splurge without feeling guilty while on my diet. I don't even think you can tell a difference from the regular & my unleaded version. LOL! This is definitely a gift mix. Thanks so much for creating this awesome recipe!

I just made this mix and OMG it is wonderful!!!! The only change I made was to cut the sugar back to 1 1/2 cups and that was the perfect sweetness for me. Next time I make this I will use Splenda. This is just wonderful and buying all the ingredients (except the spices since I already had them) cost as much as a box of the expensive kind and I also have enough to make another batch. Do try this if you love chai and you will not be sorry. Just start with 1 1/2 cups of sugar and if you do like it sweeter you can always add more.

Ran across this recipe before Christmas and decided to try it. Wow, no more Starbucks for me. This chai is great. The only problem I had is getting everything to dissolve and stay mixed. I have a vita mix blender and ran everything thru twice, still by the time you finish a cup you get grains of tea or spices floating in your mug. Maybe a food processor would do better. It is a bit pricey to make. The cardamom is $10 bucks alone! I bought all the ingredients and it made about 2 1/2 batches. I ended up making about 6 batches due to the request from everyone who tried it. I have my own stash tucked away for the rest of the winter. I will definatley be making, and giving this again next year. I gave a tin of chai and some Grandma Johnson's Scones as gifts to co workers and neighbors. Perfect!

Great! Initially I used 1 1/2c splenda and it didn't taste sweet enough so I added 1/2c of sugar. I only used 3/4 tsp cloves and 1/2 tsp cardamom but added the 1/4 tsp of white pepper. I liked the flavor much better after adding the pepper! I ground it all together in a VitaMix blender which ground it so fine that it dissolved completely when mixed with hot water. Cardamom is pricey but I'll be able to make this SEVERAL times with the one purchase! Great recipe!

Too yummy. Like many others, we made it as Christmas gifts in mason jars. To save money I did the recommended adding vanilla to sugar and skipped the vanilla-flavored creamer. I did spring for the cardamom, however--it's just not chai tea without it.

This recipe is delicious. My only changes were along the same lines as other reviewers - I used half as much sugar and 1.5 times as much of each of the spices, and did not include the tea - I just add the mix to a freshly brewed cup of tea. I've been drinking this non-stop since making the mix! Thanks!

Thank you for the wonderful Chai recipe. My whole family loved it. My husband and I even mix it in our morning coffee sometimes. I did cut the sugar down about a 1/2C per other reviewers suggestions. We like a lot of flavor and the spice amount is perfect, so be careful not to add too many extras. I wouldn't suggest skipping the cardamom, I think thats what makes Chai taste like...Chai. There are other good recipes to try on this site that call for cardamom so I think you could easily use it again. I made Kulfi(as a dessert with my Indian menu) and it was really good and used cardamom.

This recipe is very close to Trader Joe's Spicy Chai Latte. To my horror, TJs discontinued their decaf Spicy Chai Latte which left my kids and I out in the cold...until I modified this recipe and made it no fat, low sugar with decaf, unflavored instant tea! My picky son proclaimed that this recipe was more flavorful and tasted fresher than TJs - that's huge! I did buy fresh spices to ensure peak flavor. Here are my modifications to the author's wonderful original recipe: I used 1 cup *fat-free* unflavored non-dairy creamer; I omitted the french vanilla non-dairy creamer (I don't like the film that too much creamer leaves on the tongue); I omitted all the sugar & replaced it with only 1/2 cup Splenda blend [it was plenty sweet!] to which I added the vanilla and dried it in a 200-degree oven for 30 minutes; I reduced cardamom to 1/2 tsp because while I love the dimension it adds, the full teaspoon would have overpowered the other spices; I did add the author's suggestion of nutmeg and allspice, however I did not include the pepper because the cardamom is already peppery. I used a cuisinart with the metal blade to blend the ingredients all at once [cover feeder assembly with a towel to prevent tea dust from filling the air]. The modified recipe filled 1 empty 10-oz TJs chai latte tin. We used 1-1/2 TJ scoops of tea mix for 1, 8 oz mug of hot water. Maybe next cup we'll try it with hot skim milk. Making spicy chai at home allows for tweaking the ingredients, controlling the

This is a wonderful recipe. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because the full amount of sugar is way too sweet. I reduced the sugar to 1 1/2 cups and it is perfect. If you use 1 1/2 cups sugar then this will make 1 full quart jar and just enough more to make yourself a test cup of nice hot chai.

Wonderful! I don't like having the spices floating in the top of my mug so I put the mix inside a coffee filter, tie it closed with a rubber band, and then steep it in hot water like a tea bag. Tastes delicious!

I followed some of the suggestions and cut the sugar back. I didn't have cardamom on hand so made it without and it is very good. It had an aftertaste, but I think it was the tea so next time I may just make it without the tea and use tea bags instead. Overall it is very good! Update: Made the mix with the cardamom and brewed tea with Darjeeling tea bags--perfect!

I think this tea is good, but I didn't think it had enough flavor. Apparently, I missed the extra spices in the header....I bet those would make a difference. I will try those next time. I would highly recommend using a magic bullet to grind it up; it worked awesome for this!

I got talked into making this for a friend on the exchange, Cheesecakemama. I don't have instant black tea, but I have everything else (except plain non dairy creamer--I just used 2x as much french vanilla non dairy creamer), so I made the mix without the tea and steeped a black tea bag in hot water. Not a bad mix. I made one serving and cut the sugar to 2 tspns but I think I'd cut it even more--this is very sweet! I really taste the cloves and cardamom, so if you're unsure about those flavors, I'd cut them down a bit. I'd be willing to buy instant black tea and make the mix for friends, but if I drink it myself I'd probably use more of the mix ratio to water--I like my chai thicker. Thanks for the recipe!

just wonderful! though the cardamom and cloves are exceedingly expensive, these spices are absolutely crucial for the full experience of a great cup of chai. i did modify slightly. i couldnt find the instant tea, so i used allison's suggestion below and used a tea bag instead. and i left out the dry milk too. i dont like my chai too creamy, so the non-dairy creamer was the perfect touch. ;-)
