This tastes just like the powdered chai latte mix that you can buy in the grocery store. I changed two things. First, I only used 1 1/2 C sugar. Second, I did not use any cardamom. I didn't have any and did not want to spend that kind of money for a spice. The flavor is perfect for me.

This chai is fab-ul-ous but I would like to add a note, due to a diet I was on and the absence of vanilla flavored creamer in the house, I thought I would try the receipe with what I had on hand since I need my CHAI. I found that using the plain creamer instead of the vanilla made little or no difference in flavor. I also cut the sugar in half and found it to not have such a sweet after taste. I think the basic receipe is great and it is possible to twick it for anyone's personal taste. Also I use my magic bullet to mix ingredients together, if you mix the seasonings together first, add it to the mixture and then grind everything together you get a smoother taste BUT that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Thanks for the recipe, I have converted many people to Chai latte. For a treat, try using coffemate liquid Itialian Creamer, it is wonderful.

I love the idea of making my own tea, and this would make a great gift. However, for everyday use I prefer not to use all that powdered and instant stuff. I mixed the spices listed here and nutmeg as suggested, then added them to some weak coffee with french vanilla creamer. Not as quick and easy, but much more satisfying, as I mistrust "fast food".

Good stuff! I used more french vanilla creamer and less sugar. Also tastes much better in hot milk than water!!

Yummy- I love pumpkin chai- so here is how I adapted the recipe. Instead of vanilla creamer I used pumpkin spice creamer from coffee mate and added 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice. I found cardamon seed (not pod) at an Indian store and ground it- very cheap!! I used 1 1/2 c Splenda and fat free creamer and decaf tea. This made a great sugar free/ almost fat free/ decaf treat! Great for 0 weight watcher points.

This stuff is amazing! I gave it as Christmas gifts and received several requests for the recipe. I made it according to the recipe and it was perfect! Just the right amount of everything! Better than the "spiced tea" recipe of the 70's!

Great recipe. I love being able to control the amount of spice...and I finally found a use for that dorky little Bullet blender! By the way, I got my spices at a local Asian grocery. The most I paid was $2.50 for 3 ounces of cardamom.

Excellent tea mix recipe. We love it just as it is, but I'm sure to tweak the spices and cut down on the sugar next time I make it just to see if I can improve on it. Thanks for sharing!

All I can say is...MMMMMMM!!!! This is soooo good. I made it with all the spices (header included), 1 3/4c splenda mix, FF French Vanilla creamer, & Lite Original creamer since I wanted to try a little "lighter" version. I mixed it with skim milk and it's absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Now I can splurge without feeling guilty while on my diet. I don't even think you can tell a difference from the regular & my unleaded version. LOL! This is definitely a gift mix. Thanks so much for creating this awesome recipe!

I just made this mix and OMG it is wonderful!!!! The only change I made was to cut the sugar back to 1 1/2 cups and that was the perfect sweetness for me. Next time I make this I will use Splenda. This is just wonderful and buying all the ingredients (except the spices since I already had them) cost as much as a box of the expensive kind and I also have enough to make another batch. Do try this if you love chai and you will not be sorry. Just start with 1 1/2 cups of sugar and if you do like it sweeter you can always add more.

Ran across this recipe before Christmas and decided to try it. Wow, no more Starbucks for me. This chai is great. The only problem I had is getting everything to dissolve and stay mixed. I have a vita mix blender and ran everything thru twice, still by the time you finish a cup you get grains of tea or spices floating in your mug. Maybe a food processor would do better. It is a bit pricey to make. The cardamom is $10 bucks alone! I bought all the ingredients and it made about 2 1/2 batches. I ended up making about 6 batches due to the request from everyone who tried it. I have my own stash tucked away for the rest of the winter. I will definatley be making, and giving this again next year. I gave a tin of chai and some Grandma Johnson's Scones as gifts to co workers and neighbors. Perfect!

Great! Initially I used 1 1/2c splenda and it didn't taste sweet enough so I added 1/2c of sugar. I only used 3/4 tsp cloves and 1/2 tsp cardamom but added the 1/4 tsp of white pepper. I liked the flavor much better after adding the pepper! I ground it all together in a VitaMix blender which ground it so fine that it dissolved completely when mixed with hot water. Cardamom is pricey but I'll be able to make this SEVERAL times with the one purchase! Great recipe!

Too yummy. Like many others, we made it as Christmas gifts in mason jars. To save money I did the recommended adding vanilla to sugar and skipped the vanilla-flavored creamer. I did spring for the cardamom, however--it's just not chai tea without it.

This recipe is delicious. My only changes were along the same lines as other reviewers - I used half as much sugar and 1.5 times as much of each of the spices, and did not include the tea - I just add the mix to a freshly brewed cup of tea. I've been drinking this non-stop since making the mix! Thanks!

Thank you for the wonderful Chai recipe. My whole family loved it. My husband and I even mix it in our morning coffee sometimes. I did cut the sugar down about a 1/2C per other reviewers suggestions. We like a lot of flavor and the spice amount is perfect, so be careful not to add too many extras. I wouldn't suggest skipping the cardamom, I think thats what makes Chai taste like...Chai. There are other good recipes to try on this site that call for cardamom so I think you could easily use it again. I made Kulfi(as a dessert with my Indian menu) and it was really good and used cardamom.
