Instead of whole tomatoes, I used Rotel tomatoes and chiles...added some kick! My nephew said it was the best soup he had ever eaten...EVER!! Served it with sour cream (didn't add it to the soup), chopped green onions, shredded cheese and chopped avocado. My daughter in law also uses fresh lime to squeeze on soup if you like...I really like the lime. Superb recipe!

Not too bad, for a soup made mostly from canned goods. Make sure not to boil the soup after adding sour cream-it may curdle. Also, for the measurement-challenged like me, 2 quarts water=8 cups.

OMG!!! There is a reason this is a five star recipe. It tastes wonderful and is healthy too! My husband and brother both said that it was awesome. I did like others and used diced tomatoes with green chiles in place of the regular diced tomatoes because we love spicy. Also because I knew that I was going to let it simmer for a long time I didn't bother sauteing the onions and garlic I just threw it all together. Another reviewer said she just boiled frozen chicken instead of thawing it out first and I did that too. Worked great and saved time. Yum yum! Try this recipe.

This recipe was great! It was hearty and was more like a chicken chili than a soup. I made this for my parents and we all loved it. It did have a bit more flavor when we ate it the next day for leftovers so definitely the longer it sits, the more flavor it has. Overall, a great recipe! I will definitely make it again.

I love this recipe!! I added a hot salsa instead of mild to make it even more spicier.

OMG! This soup is amazing!! I don't rate very often, but I couldn't resist on this one. I am a HUGE soup fanatic, and this is by far the BEST I've had. I followed the directions accordingly, but used yogurt instead of sour cream as another reviewer suggested. I also omitted the whole tomatoes and added a can of spicy rotel for a nice kick. Thank you so much for this recipe!! :o)

Wonderful recipe! I made this when my daughter had a cold, and she and my husband added tobasco sauce to theirs. So now her nose isn't stuffy! I added a dollop of sour cream to my bowl-so good!

My husband an I love this soup! That says a lot because I almost have to force feed him soup. Be warned if you make the full recipe be prepared to have a HUGE pot of soup. I halve it and cut back from three chicken breast to 2, there still ends up being plenty of chicken. The only other changes I make are leaving out the can of peeled tomatoes and can of condensed tomato soup and add a can of tomato paste. Thanks for a great recipe :)

I didn't even bother to thaw the chicken. I just put the frozen breasts in the pot to simmer and it was fantastic. This is absolutley wonderful! Definately simmer a long time to meld the flavors. Serve with crusty bread and you have a fabulous fall evening!

Very Very Good!!! I took out the whole tomatoes. Its more like a chili then a soup, but I think its better that way. Makes a lot! I cut the recipe in 1/2 and I still had a lot. Even my nephew who is a very picky eater loved it! So it wasn't a big deal having lots of left overs. We ate it with Frito chips also. I plan on making this again. Maybe next time I will add noodles or white rice.. But, it still very good on its own! A+++++++

This was great! I made a very large batch, and it still didn't last as long as I expected simply because we couldn't keep out of it. I made a few alterations. First, I added a bit of extra chicken broth since I'm cooking at a high altitude and the additional liquid helps make up for evaporation. We didn't have onion powder in the house, so I used an extra half cup of finely diced onion. I also used only canned diced tomatoes instead of canned diced and canned whole, and I added a can of black beans for color and volume. I also used plain fat-free yogurt instead of sour cream and cut back significantly on the olive oil to keep the fat content down. The finished product turned out fantastic, and I'll definitely be making it again.

I been looking for a good tortilla soup and I came across this one and this was the EXACT SOUP MY TASTE BUDS WANTED! I love this soup! I have made it over 5 times since I found the recipe 3 months ago. I did skip the sour cream in the soup, I add it to my personal bowl if I feel like it, but it is superb without it. I don't add the can of whole tomatoes, I just add another can of diced tomatoes, I really love tomatoes so the more the merrier. I also only use two chicken breasts because that is enough chicken for me. I also usually use all the water from the boiled chickens not just 5 cups. One more thing I add is one to two small cans of green chilies, I have had the soup with them and without them and it is good both ways, I just like green chilies. I freeze a bunch of it and it's the same goodness from when u first make it!

Very good, I will make this again! However, I changed it up a bit as others recommended. I used 1 can of diced tomatos, and 1 can of Hot Rotel (w/Habanero). Omitted the whole tomatos, and also used 1 can of chili beans, and 1 can of black beans. I didn't use the water from the boiled chicken, I substituted that with 5 cups of chicken broth. I also used 2 11oz cans of Mexicorn, and left out the sour cream. I added the sour cream to my bowl afterwards. I might try hot chili beans next time instead of medium, just for a little more kick... 11/5/09 Update: This also works very well for Quesadillas. Simply drain as much of the liquid out of the soup as you can, then heat the mixture before adding to your Quesadilla with whatever other filling you may like. I just use shreddeed Chihuahua cheese. When served with sour cream for dipping, this is another way to enjoy this delicious recipe! Try it, I dare you... I bet you'll enjoy it! Hmmm, bet it would also make a great filling for Burittos, or Enchiladas that way too.
