DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
In a large bowl, cream together the 1/2 cup butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, beating well, then stir in the sour cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Fold in cashew pieces. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
To make the frosting, melt 1/2 cup butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until butter turns a light brown color, be careful not to burn it. Remove from heat and stir in the cream. Gradually beat in the confectioners' sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth. Spread onto cooled cookies.

Excellent cookie! I think the term "burned butter" kind of scares people off though. From the way the butter frosting turns out, I think it should be referred to as "carmel butter". Very NUMMY !! :)

Very good cookie...has a buttery/nutty taste. I chopped the cashews up with my food processor, being careful not to chop them too fine. From the previous reviews, I expected them to be on the "not-so-sweet" side, but I thought they were plenty sweet. And, actually a quite "rich" cookie. These would make a good cookie for holiday baking, as I considered them to be a "special" treat.

I have made this little cookie for years. Got recipe from friend in Wisc. and her Grandma made it. We are in late 50's and all love this cookie. Don't always know how long to brown butter. Will see what others say. Want to enter in newspaper Cookie Contest. Had written up the recipe but could not find it in my WORD so went on line and saw you. Second part of recipe did not print just now. Will check it out. Barbara Dean

They're decent. The frosting is not too sweet, but you could leave it off if you're just looking for a more plain, nutty flavor. The cookie had a toffee flavor. Mom gave it a 3 and they weren't attacked by the fam, so I probably won't make again.

These are now my favorite cookies! They were wonderful. I took them to my sister-in-law who is a casher-lover like I am and she also decided they were her favorite. The frosting is perfect and sets up nicely.

This is a fantastic enhancement to the traditional sour cream cookie. The icing is just the right touch of sweetness for the 'not so sweet' but wonderfully flavored cookie. I had to hid the storage container from my mother-in-law so I'd have some left for the holiday ! She was VERY impressed!

This is an absolutely fabulous recipe. The slightly salty flavor of the cashews is complemented completely by the sweetness of the icing. These are my new favorite!
