Made this tonight -- excellent!! And for a casserole, very light -- not a heavy, bogged down feeling! I agree that since I don't care for green pepper, that easily swaps out with peas or brocolli!. I also used Ritz crackers rather than saltines. Next time, I may add a tad of garlic or something, although it was delicious the way it is. I used diced rather than sliced water chestnuts. Wonderful textures and flavors!! I will definitely make again!

Comfort food at it's best! It reminded me of a tuna noodle casserole that I loved as a child even though this was made with chicken. Everyone had two helpings at dinner and came back for more at lunch the next day. This is a repeat recipe for my family!

I thought this dish was pretty strange but when all said and done it was quite good. Don't think I would serve it to company but it was good for a quick weeknight meal. Might make again, the only change I made was using sharp cheddar instead of the processed cheese.

Followed the recipe pretty closely (used a bit of ground chicken as I didn't have quite enough cooked cubed chicken). I thought it was quite tasty and so did my company. A little runny but that's not a big deal and could be because I used some ground chicken. Love that you pre-make it and just have to stick it in the oven when hectic dinner time comes around!

I am one of those people who changes the recipe without trying the original, but this recipe can be really versatile in my opinion. I omitted the green bell peppers and added brocolli. When I cooked the chicken I added salt, pepper, and garlic powder. I used cheddar instead of american for more flavor. I used ritz crackers instead of saltine, again, for flavor. After reading reviews stating it lacked flavor, I overcompensated for flavor and it came out great. Definately play with it if you like a lot of full flavor because you can add so much to it and it is really a great base recipe.

This was a little soupy--even the leftovers. It would have been good with rice to absorb the extra juice or more pasta. The soup part had a good taste. This is a very simple casserole. It is ok. It needs somthing to give it some oomp. All the kids liked it. They had seconds.

My husband and teenage daughter loved this however they suggested I try peas or broccoli instead of green peppers because the taste was a little too powerful. I used Italian seasoned breadcrumbs instead of the crackers and omitted the water chestnuts based on other recommendations on the site. Therefore the consistency came out just right.

Really good recipe. I didn't read the refrigerate overnight bit, so I did everything the same as the recipe but cooked the macaroni first. It meant the veg was still really fresh and crunchy.

My family loves this dish. Since thate are only 3 of us, we cut it in half and just use the cream of chicken soup.

This was a little bit unusual, but good! It is certainly easy to make! I made only a couple of small changes. First, I didn't have American cheese, so I used cheddar, and I didn't have cracker crumbs (or any crackers for that matter), so I used bread crumbs. It was a little soupy when I served it at first, but the next day, the moisture had all absorbed and I liked it even better. The only thing I would change next time would be to leave out the water chestnuts and add a few more cashews. Yum!!

Dont forget to pre-cook the chicken, or it will take forever to cook! It was pretty good. I think I made way too much for 2 people though!

I did follow the recipe exactly, and I do believe it turned out well. It's just not my favorite, but my husband loved it. My kids were not huge fans either. I would make this again only if requested. :)

Very good casserole. I added some extra uncooked pasta, since some people said it got soggy/soupy, and it worked very well. Also, I omitted the butter in the topping and served with parmesan cheese. My husband LOVED it, but it was a little too simple for me.

Everyone loved this! I missed the part about refrigerating over night, so I put it in the freezer for about an hour before baking. I baked it for about 50 minutes. Turned out great! I doulbled the recipe and froze one for another time.

I made it and baked it the same day. It turned out watery. The left overs the next night were much better. So, make sure to plan ahead on this one. Very tasty. My kiddos loved it too.

Only made two changes to this recipe, I used all cream of chicken soup because that's what I had on hand, and subbed Ritz crackers on top but omitted the butter. Excellent recipe, even the leftovers were great reheated for lunch!

I must have done something wrong. I think I followed the recipe exactly, but this did not turn out how I thought it would. Mine was more of a soup than a casserole. The celery and green peppers still tasted raw when it came out of the oven, and the noodles were really mushy. I won't be making this again.
