This is the recipe for my grandma's rice. Being Hispanic, this is about as Mexican as you can get. Good as a side dish, or in a taco with ground beef.

'I got this recipe from the mother of one of my college roommates many years ago and filed it away,' writes Suzy Mercker of Lawrenceville, Georgia. 'I found it one night by accident and made it for dinner. Now it's a staple that I often serve with chicken, beef, pork...or even fish.'

South African Yellow Rice

This is a traditional South African recipe, which comes from the great culinary tradition of the Cape Malays -- originally brought in as slaves in the 17th century. It's easy and plain, but great with meats like venison, corned beef tongue or any meat with gravy. Also usually served with Bobotie: There is a good recipe by Caryn on this site.

A deliciously different type of rice dish that everyone will enjoy. I like to use fresh dill when available, and then use it for the garnish as well.

Rice with Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds, turmeric, and tamarind paste bring their distinctive flavors to this easy to make rice dish. It involves a few exotic ingredients, but they will be well worth visiting a food specialty shop to obtain!
