I have always used canned yams, but my sister gave me some fresh ones so I made these. They have to be the best candied yams I have ever tasted. I have made them 3 times and everytime they turn out wonderful. I will never use canned yams again.

Don't get me wrong...I have a major sweet tooth but these were a little too much for me. I'd cut the butter in half next time and cut back on the sugar too. Otherwise, great flavor!

Substantially reduced sugar (3/4 cup) and butter (1/2 cup), and it was still too sweet for us. I'll keep trying to find the right balance.
