This was a fantastic recipe. I followed the other reviewers' advice and substituted butter for 2 Tablespoons of oil and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. I had to make a lot of cookies, so I made one batch with a yellow cake box mix and one with a dark chocolate one. I then made ball shapes with half of each, for a black and white cookie. They look and taste fantastic!

My husband really enjoyed these cookies, I thought they were good-not great. I did have a little oopsie, imagine with 3 kids in the kitchen having that happen:) Somehow, I had in my brain that I needed to use 1 c. butter. I didn't realize until after I already had it partially mixed that it was only 1/2 cup. I was nervous that the cookies would be a total disaster. They weren't they did spread obviously, but no so much that they were ruined. I used chocolate cake mix, and added Andes mint chips. My husband wants me to accidently use 1 c. butter every time. I would like to try it with just one (save as much as we can on calories and our arteries)!

pretty darn good! I made these with 2 tblsp of apple sauce and 1 tsp vanilla in addition to other ingredients, threw in some semi sweet chips and toffee bits and topped with sweetened coconut. Baked about 10 min and insides are soft and gooey! YUM

Very good cookie! I loved the simplicity! Extremely easy, slightly crunchy on outside and very moist and fudgy in the center. I did not try making as original but did add the 2 T veg oil and 1 tsp vanilla as other reviewers suggested. The only negative thing I can say about these cookies is that they are very flat. But the taste and texture is very good. I will definitely make this again.

I am so glad I tried this recipe!!! I have tried several different chocolate cookie recipes and was dissapointed every time. They always turned out hard or the flavor was terrible. And not being a big fan of cake mix cookies, I never thought to try chocolate cake mix instead of regular chocolate cookie batter. I bought several boxes of Betty Crocker cake mix on sale, so that's what I used. Then after reading some other reviews, I made sure to add 2 Tbsp vegetable oil and 1 tsp vanilla. I also substituted the baking Andes mints for reg chocolate chips. I used my small pampered chef cookie scooper to make the balls. 9 minutes was the magic time for these cookie in the oven. My first couple pans experienced quite a bit of speading because the batter had become warm, but after putting it in the fridge for a little bit they came out wonderful. Very easy to make, got lots of compliments. You couldn't even taste the cakey flavor. They remained soft and chewy for days (I made mine 3 days ago). A friend said using butter yellow cake mix with butterscotch chips and adding a little cinnamon makes a good combo as well. I am so happy I've finally found a good chocolate cookie recipe!!

I absolutely love this recipe, and I have tried them all kinds of ways. Our personal favorite is probably strawberry cake mix with chocolate chips, though the chocolate cake mix with butterscotch chips are a close second! I followed others suggestions about adding a little oil and vanilla extract, and they're much less sticky that way. I also experimented with making them in muffin tins, which was a big hit. They need to cook a bit longer, and yield close to 2 dozen. These are a regular treat out of my kitchen!

Not a fan. Although chocolately, too salty and not NEARLY as good as homemade.

Yummy! I made this recipe just as is but with a little less than a cup of chocolate chips and it was really good. Will try the oil version to cut down on fat next time.

These were excellent. Followed the instructions (other than adding the vanilla as others suggested) and they were scrumptious! I feel bad because I didn't leave any for my son:(, but I couldn't help myself. I don't really know if the vanilla actually made a difference. Next time I will make it without. We made some with peanut butter chips and some with white chocolate chips. We found the peanut butter chips a little over powering. This is a keeper.

I made these cookies for a bake sale at school and they sold out very quickly! I took other reviewers' advice and added the 2 T oil--made the cookies very soft and chewy. I used devil's food and white chocolate chips. The ultimate test was when my boyfriend ate one and immediately had a smile on his face. This recipe is a keeper!

These were easy to make and tasted great! I followed the suggestions of add 2T of oil and 1tsp of vanilla. I also substituted peanut butter chips for the chocolate chips and wow were they good! Next I am going to try using a spice cake mix with walnuts and raisins, maybe with some cream cheese frosting. This is a great base recipe for all us who love to bake but don't have the time.

I like this recipe because you can do so many versions of it. I read the other reviews regarding the use of 2 tbs oil and 1 tsp vanilla extract and decided to trust them and add the ingredients. The cookies came out very moist and I will try to do another batch w/o oil to see if it firms the cookies up. They were delicious and I am going to make some red velvet cookies with white chocolate chips for Valentine's Day.

Good recipe, but I guess I'm a bit of a cookie purist. These get points for looking great and tasting....Good. However I think i'll be going back to Chocolate Chocolate chip cookies 2 from the allrecipes website. These just didn't taste homemade. Glad I tried them though, if I ever get in a bind and need cookies fast this will be my go to recipe.
