I didn't change a thing, and I wouldn't. I panicked when I couldn't find my regular recipe, but after fixing this one I'm thankful I lost the other one. Now, this will be our regular sloppy joe recipe. Thanks for sharing!

YUM! What a great way to use cabbage! These were loved by eveyone in my family. We used vegetarian "beef" and they turned out fantastic.

I gave this recipe a 5 because it had a great taste and the vegetables went unnoticed by my family-Bonus!

Great recipe. My family loves these. Once your eaters get used to the cabbage in there, you can make them even healthier by substituting more of the meat for more cabbage or even other veggies. ie grated carrot, bok choy or chard stems, squash, broccoli stalk, whatever.

This was very good, make sure you cook it long enough so the cabbage isn't crisp. Really stretched a pound of hamburger.

I adjusted the ketchup down to 1/2 c (Trader Joe's organic has no high fructose corn syrup!) and the brown sugar to 1 T and left the lemon juice out, as others had recommended. I added a whole 10 oz bag of TJ's shredded cabbage, and it wasn't too much for my family, but we loooove cabbage. I didn't have a green pepper, but I bet it would have been a nice addition and I will be sure to add it next time. (I won't add just a partial one, but the whole darn thing. Who wants to find a slimy, wrinkled partial green pepper in their fridge 10 days from now?) I agree with other cooks/reviewers that this is a not too sweet, not too tart and not too tomatoey recipe that is very satisfying. I'll make this again, fo sho.

Used 1 tbl. brown sugar, and no lemon juice or vinegar. Also added a can of tomato paste to try and "cover things up". Didn't fool my 3 year old, who picked out the cabbage, but loved the sauce.

These sloppy joes were really tasty. I took the advice of others and reduced the brown sugar to 1 Tablespoon, the ketchup to 3/4 cup, and omitted the lemon. The sauce was sweet and tangy without being too much. I also used turkey instead of beef and added extra veggies (2+ cups of cabbage, a large onion, 2 celery stalks, and 2 shredded carrots) and it still came out delicious.

We really liked these and thought that it had more of a vinegar taste rather than bbq which was great. I cut down on the ketchup and brown sugar as previous reviews suggested. I used coleslaw mix for the cabbage and it kind of got lost so I'll try bigger chopped pieces of cabbage next time.

After reading the reviews I made the following alterations: I used 1/2 C. ketchup, 1 T. of brown sugar, and I omitted the lemon juice entirely. It was delicious! Nice and tangy, slightly sweet, but not overwhelming. Also, I'm serving the sloppy joe over baked potatoe halves for something different.
