I didn't really use to much in your recipe, but used the same cooking method. :) This is what I used ... 1 pound Lean ground beef 1 pound Lean ground pork 1 large chopped onion 1 large cabbage chopped (about 12 cups) 1 1/2 cups cooked rice 1 1/2 teaspoon salt dash of black pepper a dash of cayanne pepper a tiny bit of crushed chili flakes 2 large garlic cloves (crushed and chopped) Sauce (tangy and sweet): 1 (large) can bravo tomato sauce 1 can tomato soup 3 tbsp brown sugar 2-4 tbsp lemon (to your taste) Cook meat, onion and garlic on med. heat, season as it's cooking. cook until the meat is no longer pink. Add rice and Chop cabbage and mix with the sauce ... let it steam 5 minutes. Will makes alot so use a turkey roaster if you have one. bake covered for 1 1/2 hours. We served it over steamed rice because I didn't add enough. I still like cabbage rolls better but would make this again. Also my husband said it would be better with half the amount of cabbage. Makes to much but has a tons of flavour. :)

I came upon this recipe because I had beef, cabbage, and rice I needed to use. It was a really simple recipe and almost impossible to mess up. Some of my proportions we a little off and I used spaghetti sauce instead of regular tomato sauce. It turned out great and was really yummy, pretty healthy too. I did add a bit of cheese in to the mixture and loved it!

DELICIOUS!! My Nanny always made stuffed cabbage and I have tried them but they are time consuming, this recipe is tasty and easier than the rolls. I only had a regular sized can of tomato sauce so I did have to add some chili sauce (closest thing I had) at the end. Very good quick recipe!!

I tryed the top of the stove method and it worked out just fine. I had a bag of carrots that I needed to use so I put them in as well. I would make this again.

this was SO GOOD! i cut the recipe in half, added 2 (16 oz) cans of diced tomatoes and while it was in the oven i took another can, put them in the blender and heated them over the stove with a tiny bit of garlic powder and pepper. This was really good to drizzle over the top after it came out of the oven. My family LOVED this recipe. My sister asked for the recipe so she can make it! Also, I layered the ingredients in the pan and then slightly mixed it. One layer of cabbage, a can of tomatoes, ground beef, onions, rice, cabbage, can of tomatoes, can of tomato sauce and then poured the beef broth over the top. I didnt have beef broth so i used a packet of beefy onion broth mix and instead of water i used vegetable stock. It was amazing!

Add spices like it's your JOB and you will love this. My changes: we live in FL and it's June- I'm not turning my oven on unless there is a dire brownie emergency!! I did everything in 2 saute pans on the stove- one for the meat and onions (crumbled turkey sausage) and one for the cabbage and rice. I added the broth and stirred the rice like risotto, it cooked up gorgeously. Once I added the cabbage and let it cook down too, then the tomato sauce and lots and lots of cayenne and black pepper. Guido declared it a home run!

This dish has become a staple in our house. We usually leave out the rice for a low-carb-friendly meal. The kids love it too!

I am a fairly good cook. I use recipes from this site almost daily. This is the first and only one that my husband and I did NOT like at all. I followed the recipe exactly and was so looking forward to this dish. It was so bad, we threw it out and ordered pizza, which is a first for us!!! I will stick to the old fashion cabbage rolls that have NEVER failed me. This was a waste of food and money!!!!

I tried this tonight. I used Rotel and Tomato soup like others suggested. I also added minced garlic. I put it all in a crock pot. It was still a bit bland so next time we plan on adding italian sausage with the hamburger as well as one can of sourkraut to add a little kick. All in all....it was great. I'll never roll another cabbage leaf. This is a keeper!

Just as good without all the work!! I was planning to do things the hard way and remembered seeing this while cruising for recipes a few weeks back. I dont know if I will ever roll cabbage again it was so good. Hubby said this was a keeper!! My alterations were similar to discobunnies only I used 1 lb gr beef and 1 lb gr pork (not sausage). I used 1 and a half cans tomato soup, 1 can diced tomato and 1 can broth. Seasoned and did rice as the discobunny suggested. Made 2 meals for a family of 4, one has gone to the freezer for later enjoyment:-). Loved it!! Try it if you hate the work but love the traditional dish!!

So quick and easy. Would definitely make this again and again. We love cabbage rolls but often don't have the time for all the work related to them. This is the perfect fix for that problem. The only things I added were some green pepper, a bit of celery salt and a layer of shredded marble cheese on top added just before serving. Yum!
