This is a good basic recipe. I too use tomato soup, but sometimes I add a can of diced or stewed tomatoes. I sometimes add bacon to the rice/hamburger mixture. I use brown rice most of the time. I saute the onions with garlic and celery, if I have it on hand.

This recipe was great! It was very simple to prepare and tasted great. Even my four-year old son gobbled it up. My husband wants to make it again next week. I think we are going to try adding some frozen veggies into it.

I made this tonight, and it was great. Easy to prepare and very budget friendly. I already had half a head of cabbage chopped up and frozen and I put it in the casserole dish straight from the freezer. Worked out wonderfully. My fiance finished his and asked if he could have the rest of mine. Of course, I said no.

First of all, this has got the be the easiest recipe ever! However, after I baked it for 50 minutes the cabbage was still raw so I took a spoon and stirred the layers all together. That seemed to help. In total I think I ended up baking it for an hour and a half. I have to admit I had serious doubts but it was surprisingly pretty tasty! Served over white rice.

I grew up on this stuff. We always called it cabbage casserole. It is like a cabbage roll without the work. I didn't layer this, just mixed the cooked meat with the chopped cabbage and spread undiluted soup over it then sprinkled with salt and coarse ground pepper. When you put this in the dish, it will be VERY FULL, but not to worry the cabbage will cook way down and it will not spill over as it is cooking. This is a great comfort food. I serve this with a hot loaf of bread fresh from the oven and a tossed salad. Not gourmet, but good home cooking!

We love cabbage rolls in our family, so I thought this would be an easy substitute. I changed the recipe a bit by cooking my rice first in beef broth and adding it to the hamburger before layering. I think it was a nice addition. The taste was alright overall. My boyfriend said it has "potential". I think next time I try this I will use tomato sauce rather than the soup, as it seemed to give a sweet taste I didn't want.
