Made this the other day as is except for the beans, but that was because I just forgot. It came out great, and as I consumed it over the week, I would add hot sauce and whatever spices I felt like to have a little something different from day to day. I'm making a second huge pot of it now, purposely left out the beans, doubled the cabbage with a head of red, added 5 jalapenpos, and it's cooking right now and smells great. I also added 1 tbs each of coriander and cumin, 1 tsp each tumeric and ground black pepper. Yummy!

Meh... the best I can say is - it wasn't terrible. It made enough for an army!! I ended up giving a couple of huge portions to family.

Omg its sssooo good (and filling!!!) I did not make this soup for dieting purposes but I do love cabbage and the low cal, healty meal is certainly appealing! I made this tonight for my boys, and they loved it (even my picky eater gave it an 8.9 - typically reserved only for his favorite lasagna!) The only thing I changed: I added 1 15oz can sweet corn, and 1 15 oz can garbanzo beans - which totally 'made' it for us. Will definitely make again! Thanks so much!!!

This is a good soup. I did add a custom version with more carrots and other minor changes to the veggies/quantities.

I left out two things when I made this soup: the green peppers because my family doesn't like them, and the beef broth because the cabbage releases it's own water as it's cooking and I didn't want the soup to have a lot of liquid. This soup still turned out delicious! My meat-and-potato-loving family loved this vegetarian soup! The second day I pureed the rest and it tasted even better! This soup isn't just for dieters. I will definitely make again! Thanks for sharing!

No one in my family liked this. The tomatoe juice is too overpowering, maybe if I added ground beef it would be better??

one more thing...this works! I needed to lose 10 lbs to get ultra slim, im a fitness instructor. Anyhow, I did this as my staple lunch for a month and ate under 500 calorie dinners....mostly stuffed BIG portabella mushroom caps with spinach sauteed in italian dressing. Very filling! For me, doing low low carbs slims me down. This combined diet had be shed 15lbs!! in a month. I dieted with this in August 2011 and have kept it all off by simply counting calories.

I made a few modifications but still low calorie. Saute onion, garlic, celery for a few minutes, add carrots, 1 container low sodium chicken stock, 1 can diced tomatoes, 1 can diced tomatoes with celery, green peppers, and onion (Rot-tel) 1 small can tomato juice and 1/2 head cabbage. Add onion soup mix and cook for about 45 minutes... Left out green beans but only because I couldnt fit them in the pot.

Super good!!! I like this better than clam chowder! Great recipe and from here on out I will always have some of this in my fridge! Not sure on weight loss for it yet, as it as barely cooled enough to eat, but that would be an extra perk. This is worthy of 6 stars!!

As-is, 4 stars... but so easy to make it 5 if you just add seasoning! Herbs etc. don't make it less healthy! I've made this twice now and I love that I can get a huge amount of veggies in at lunch. A few things I've learned while making this: 1) 1/2 head of cabbage is still tons. I'm sure my stock pot wouldn't have fit a whole head. 2) Use only enough water to fully cover the veggies. They will reduce as it cooks. 3) I use two packs of onion soup mix, for personal taste. 4) The herbs I use: Italian mix, oregano, parsley and bay leaves. I also add a fair amount of minced garlic. 5) I thought this would be way too "onion-y", but surprisingly, it's not. I don't make this for weight loss... I make this because it's a tasty, healthy soup with lots of veggies!
