These were just ok. I think my results were skewed because I used whole wheat flour as it was what I had on hand. I will definitely try this recipe again with white flour.

OMG, these definitely fulfilled my hot pretzel craving. The only thing different was that I ended up only needing 4.5 cups of flour. Initially mixed it was a hand mixer, then kneaded it afterwards with my hands. Baked it at 400F on the top rack on parchment paper so that I didn't have to grease the baking sheet and less clean up.

I had a little difficulty when working with the dough but I think that was more my fault because I used white whole wheat flour. I just ended up adding more water while kneading and it was more manageable. In the end these ended up tasting really good and are very filling. After baking the pretzels, I brushed them with melted butter and sprinkled half the batch with cinnamon sugar.

These pretzels are outstanding! I rub a little melted butter on them when they come out of the oven and soooo good. Just like the mall pretzels at a fraction of the cost. There is no way we would be able to use 12 pretzles, so I form the dough into pretzel shape and freeze 1/2 the batch. When we want them, I let them come to room temp, dip in the baking soda bath and bake. They are as good as fresh made. My nephew asks me to make these all the time.

Since this is the first time making this or any other pretzel recipe, i gave it a 4. It was very good. Use 1/2 less water in the baking soda mxture to give it that taste.

These DO taste like the mall pretzels! I followed another reviewer's advice and ignored mixing the dry and wet ingredients separately. I first mixed the wet (plus salt and sugar) with the yeast, then after it "proofed" added as much flour as necessary. It was almost 5 cups. Also, you don't need 4 cups water and 1/2 a cup baking soda for the bath!! WAY too much, you can easily halve that and have lots left over. Other than that, perfect, easy, and tasty. My husband told me that he didn't really like pretzels, but I had him eat a bite and his reaction was basically he was blown away, melting practically. He just ate another one! I might have to hide a few for myself. Thanks for the recipe!

I made these with honey instead of sugar - omg! Talk about INCREDIBLE. I used sugar to dissolve the yeast, and then substituted the rest of the sugar in the recipe with honey. They came out of the oven so chewy and moist - I'm positive it was thanks to the honey. They were so good we had to give a bunch away to the neighbors to keep ourselves from eating the whole batch. Everyone was raving about them (number one reaction was "these are just like Auntie Anne's - no, better!"). Truly amazing. I'm making a double batch tonight to bring tailgating tomorrow. Oh, and whip up some heavy cream with powdered sugar to drizzle over these....divine.

Fabulous. They are hard to twist into pretzel shapes so we just made sticks. Great served warm with some parmesan cheese!!

YUM! I added about a teaspoon of cinnamon to the dough and melted 1 T butter in place of veggie oil.

We make these at least once a week if not more often. My kids love them. They are so soft. We like to brush them with melted butter after they come out of the oven.

AMAZING!! They definitely take awhile to make (it took me about 2 1/4 hours, start to finish) but are not difficult at all. I cooked them at 415 for 8 minutes and they were perfectly done. They're fun to play with too; salt and butter, cinnamon and sugar, and whatever else you like! I will definitely be making these again. They'd be great for something like a Super Bowl party!

Great recipe!!! You are right, these pretzels taste better than the ones at the mall. I used 4 1/2 C. of flour instead of 5 C. Everything else I kept the same. Great recipe, Great taste !! Will make more shortly. Thank-you

Yum. Made these for lunch one day, anticipating that I wouldn't be able to stop eating them. At least I saved calories by not eating them in addition to lunch =) These were good. Melted some butter and tried them with salt and mustard, and also with cinnamon sugar. Also good cold, although the sweetness is more noticeable. Not as chewy as I might have liked, but easy. I would suggest rolling them the width of a dime or less as they do rise some.

I followed this recipe EXACTLY. I let my dough sit for an hour and a half. It did not rise at all. It was like a ball of rubber that peeled apart. I kept trying, I said what the heck, I'll bake it anyway just to see what happens. Well...my 6 year old that hates good food and only likes junk likes them. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, thank you for this recipe. Made them today, they were exactly what I was looking for. The ONLY change was I only used 4 cups of flour. Made 1/2 with butter and salt and the other 1/2 dipped in butter and cinnamon and sugar.

This are terrific. I did not do the baking soda wash, but after forming the dough I placed them on the baking sheet and lightly coated them with butter and kosher salt.
