DIRECTIONS
In a skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. In a large saucepan, melt butter. Stir in flour, salt and pepper until smooth. Gradually add buttermilk. Stir in mushrooms, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Add noodles and beef mixture; mix well. Transfer to a greased 2-1/2-qt. baking dish. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes or until heated through.
FOOTNOTE
You don't need to run to the grocery store if you find you're out of buttermilk. Make your own! For every 1 cup of buttermilk, place 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar in a glass measuring cup. Add enough milk to measure 1 cup. Let stand 5 minutes before using.

We loved this recipe. I added garlic and a little bit of crumbled bacon. I also put a small amount of cheese on top. It was creamy and delicious, and my husband (a stroganoff fan) thought this was a definite "re-make"! Thanks!

Even my 15 month old daughter loved this dish, and she is a picky eater! Easy to make, and great the next day

I could take or leave this one...it wasn't anything too spectacular - the kids ate it up though so I might adapt it. Found it too dry despite adding cheese.

Our family absolutely loved this dish. I added garlic to the recipe and also cheese. I mixed in about a cup of Kraft 3 Cheese Blend then sprinkled the top with the cheese blend as well. Thanks so much for sharing this great recipe..we thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was really good! I don't make a lot of casserole style meals, but I had thought this looked interesting when I saw it used buttermilk. It was really flavorful and I would definitely make it again.

My husband and I enjoyed this. It has a creamy texture, and was a great casserole after a long day. I did not change anything but did try the vinegar/milk trick since I was out of buttermilk. Will make again!
