Original Recipe Yield 1 - 3-layer 9 inch cake
 

Ingredients

  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 eggs

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour three 9 inch round cake pans.
  2. Cream the brown sugar and the butter. Add the eggs, and mix well.
  3. Mix the baking soda and the sour cream, and add this to the creamed mixture.
  4. Sift the flour with the baking powder and spices. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and stir in the raisins. Pour batter into three 9 inch round greased and floured cake pans.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 40 minutes or until cakes tests done.
