Broiled Pizza Burgers
SUBMITTED BY:
Ann Bailes
"'My mother made Broiled Pizza Burgers when I was growing up. We like them for Sunday supper,' says Ann Bailes of Anderson, South Carolina. 'They're even faster to fix if you use pre-browned hamburger from the freezer. We sometimes substitute slices of cheddar for the process cheese.'"

DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Sprinkle with cornstarch. Stir in the tomatoes, oregano, salt and onion salt. Cook, uncovered, for 5 minutes or until slightly thickened. Add six cheese slices; cook and stir until cheese is melted and blended.
Place hamburger buns cut side up on a baking sheet; spoon about 1/4 cup meat mixture onto each bun half. Cut remaining cheese slices in half diagonally; place over meat mixture. Broil 6-8 in. from the heat for 4 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Thought this was great. I added extras shredded cheddar cheese to it. Had a lot left over (I made a double batch), and cooked macaroni, stirred the mixture in with another can of diced tomatos, sprinkled shredded mazzarella on top and baked it for 30 mins at 350 degrees. Excellent!

This recipe definitely takes me back. I substituted with provolone to recreate the sandwich I ate as a kid. Although this is a solid recipe, I gave it 4 stars because I think it needs to be doctored with extra seasoning. Next time I'll try a different cheese to see if the flavor is richer.

This recipe is great. I couldnt find cornstarch at the store so when the mixture was a little runny I just used a little flour and it did the trick. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it seems like something is missing. But my husband and I really enjoyed it and I will be making it again!
