Brisket with Cranberry Gravy
SUBMITTED BY:
Nina Hall
"Cranberry sauce adds a pleasant sweetness to this slow-cooked version from Nina Hall of Citrus Heights, California. Use jellied sauce instead of whole berry sauce if you like, she suggests."

DIRECTIONS
Rub brisket with salt and pepper; place in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Combine the cranberry sauce, tomato sauce, onion and mustard; pour over brisket. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until meat is tender. Remove brisket; thinly slice across the grain. Skim fat from cooking juices; serve with brisket.
FOOTNOTE
This is a fresh beef brisket, not corned beef. The meat comes from the first cut of the brisket.

This is really yummy. I used jellied cranberry sauce and made the sauce for cocktail meatballs. I found that, between the tartness of the cranberry and the acidity of the tomato sauce, I had to add about 1/4 cup sugar because of bitterness. Other than that, it was perfect perfect perfect. I'll use this recipe from now on.

I was surprised at how good this was! I thought it'd be good but not this good. I'm not a fan of sweet sauce with meat (unless it's chinese!) but this was delicious. I added just under 1/4 c of sugar to the sauce. I also rubbed the meat with some spicy steak rub so it gave the sauce a little zing. This recipe is definitely a keeper, delicious and super easy.

Oh man. This recipe was delicious! The only thing I added was a teaspoon or two of sugar; other than that, I followed the recipe exactly. It was so easy, especially for a lot of people and once it was served several of them said it was the best brisket they've had. Try it!
