I used Jack Daniels for this recipe. I have to admit, the whiskey, onions and garlic simmering smelled awful, but because of the expense, I kept going. As soon as the rest of the ingredients hit the pot, especially the liquid smoke, it smelled great! I added this sauce to shredded Kahlua Pork in a Slow Cooker (from this site), and simmered for an hour. It was really good, and I will probably make it again. Not the best BBQ sauce, but one worth revisiting.

This was great. It was real close to the bottled whiskey BBQ sauce they sell in my grocery store.

This is one of the BEST BBQ sauces I've ever tried. It IS the first one I've ever made myself, and it was so easy!

I just made this recipe for the first time, and my partner, who is incredibly finicky, said that it's the best sauce he's ever tasted. So trust me - it IS! Great sauce!

This is terrific. I have used it to grill hamburgers and steaks with extra sauce offered on the side. Have also poured it over a roast in the crock pot with excellent results. No changes!

I absolutely love this recipe. We are BBQ'ng tomarrow but I tested it out...Awesome!! I used chipotle hot sauce with it and it gave it just the right kick and just alittle tang. I strained it also. My hubby doesn't like onions floating all around. I'm sure the flavor will be great after it's blended for a day!! Thanks for the great recipe!!

Before I made this recipe I had never tried any barbeque sauce with bourbon. Not even a store bought one. They never really appealed to me. I'm glad I finally gave it a try. It's fabulous! I adjusted the recipe to 1 cup of sauce to test it first and I loved it. I didn't use the tomato paste because it only needed 1 T. and I didn't want to open a can for that small of an amount. I just used additional ketchup. I also substituted red wine vinegar for the cider; it gives the sauce a little more depth. My parents are visiting this weekend and I am serving BBQ ribs for dinner and using this sauce with the adjustments. Give this recipe a try; you’ll be glad you did

All I can say is WOW! Being from the South, I've had just about every BBQ sauce known. This one had a flavor that just kind of hit the tastebud spot. I imagine posters who were less than thrilled with it have a particular taste they go for in BBQ sauce (like a vinegar-y sauce or something) and this just wasn't that taste. For me, this is THE taste. Note, though, that if you use a good whiskey (like Crown), this AIN'T cheap to make, the only reason I gave 4 * instead of 5*, but perhaps that's unfair.

This recipe rocks! I made a batch today and simmered short ribs with it. My teenagers ate the ribs right out of the pot! I will definately use this recipe from now on.

When my husband "caught" me pouring his crown royal into a recipe, well, it didn't go over well. The taste was good, but not great.

I used this sauce with Sarge's EZ Pulled Pork recipe from this site. Like others, I cut the onion into larger slices but I don't believe this to be necessary since I strained mine anyway. It most definately gets better after sitting overnight giving everything time to balance and blend. I cooked the batch for more than the 20 minutes called for (30 minutes) and I would definately do that again. It really did turn out delicious.
