This is the first recipe on this site I thought deserved 5 stars. I made this for a meal of 20 people this coming weekend, but my husband and I sneaked a taste tonight... and he, who doesn't like dessert, tried to steal my piece! I didn't use all the dough, but I did use the whole can of blueberry filling, and had I used more dough I don't think it would have been blueberry-y enough. I also forgot the nutmeg. Great recipe!!

I got this same recipe from a friend about 25 years ago. My family and I love it! I did substitute the can of pie filling with sauce made with fresh Michigan blueberries. Sauce is made with 1 c. sugar, 1/4c. cornstarch,1/8tsp. salt, 4c. blueberries,2Tbs. fresh lemon juice, 2tsp. fresh grated lemon rind. Combine the sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Stir in the water and add the blueberries. Bring the mixture to a boil, then simmer until clear and thickened, about 4 minutes. Remove from heat and add lemon juice and rind. I then just mix the nutmeg from the recipe right into the sauce. Blueberry season is the greatest!!

These are really good, but they weren't quite like what I was expecting. Everyone that tried them thought it seemed a lot like coffee cake, which is good but not what I was looking for.

this is my first time rating a recipe on this site and all i can say is 5 stars! The first time I baked this, I forgot to add the egg to the crust - yet it came out perfect anyway. The second time, I did it with peaches ( and remembered the egg!) and it was yummy. Recently I made it with mangos and then with mangos and peaches. I gotta say it has come out perfect every time! My only substitution was upping the cornstarch by another tablespoon and using 1/2 cup brown and 1/2 cup white sugars in the crust. Thanks ! Rave reviews from every one.

Christmas 2008 I made this for the first time. The whole month is MASSIVE baking and I try at least 6 new recipes each season. With the pie filling rather than fresh blueberries, it is a great recipe for year round! It actually tastes better the day after it's made. THIS IS A FOREVER KEEPER! It was very well received and requested, so I probably made it at least 4 times since. It is a GREAT take along dessert and makes a very pretty plate to give to others! Thank you for posting it!

This recipe makes a large portion and tastes great for another day or two. Next time I will omit the powdered sugar frosting and use whip cream to cut the sweetness.

It was actually my wife who made this. I don't know whether she altered the recipe. I just know that I was unimpressed. It was too sweet for her. I didn't mind the sweetness, but it gave me tremendous heartburn. I think it might have been from the blueberry pie filling. I'm just not sure. I wouldn't make this again.

I think maybe I should have added a little sugar to the blueberry filling because it wasn't very sweet. I will use this recipe again though. I wet my hands and carefully pressed out just enough of the dough to cover the bottom before I added the blueberries. I had plenty of topping left to completely cover the blueberry filling.

This really is an easy recipe and it comes out great. I didn't have any lemon juice and made the bars without the topping and my family still enjoyed them.

These were very good...a nice change of pace for dessert instead of the same kinds of things. This would also make a great dessert to serve with coffee and tea.

The trick to spreading the top layer: Only put a small amount of batter on the bottom of the pan. Spread the blueberries on. Then with 2 spoons, drops spoonfuls of the batter onto the blueberries, distributing evenly. Then with the spoons, kind of stretch the batter out, in an outward motion. It's hard to describe, but I hope that makes sense. The bottom layer does end up being thinner than the top, but then you don't end up with a blue mess on the top. Oh, and don't worry too much about getting the top layer of batter to cover everywhere. The batter rises and will fill in most of the small gaps. Anyways, I followed the recipe exactly except I forgot to add the nutmeg. Tasty and easy.

This tasted good but didn't turn out anything like I imagined. I must have used too much batter on the bottom because I didn't have enough left to cover the top, and I even used a smaller pan than recommended (9 x 13). Next time, I will not use the entire can of pie filling. Also, I wasn't a fan of the glaze.....the lemon juice didn't taste quite right with the confectioner sugar. Still tasty though.

I bring in treats to my husband's work all of the time, and this is the first one they have specifically asked for again! This is a fab recipe. The only change I would suggest is using 1/2 cup butter. It still tastes wonderful and no one is the wiser! :)

These turned out wonderful for us. My boys enjoyed them alot. I did forget to sprinkle the nutmeg though, and did not use the size of pan required. Used a 9x13 metal pan and we got nice thick bars. A great recipe, will most likely make again.

I didn't hear my timer go off and burned the batch I made... and my husband still raved! We can't wait to make them again when we don't have to scrape off the bottoms.
