We never had store bought syrup in the house, and when you taste this you'll know why. It's so simple and so good, anything else seems pointless.

This is a great homemade syrup that we found at a little B&B in South Dakota. This syrup is wonderful on hot, fresh blueberry pancakes.

This was the syrup I grew up with. It tastes fabulous without all the extra work on getting real tapped maple syrup. It's also a cheaper way to have syrup, as these are things I always have in my cupboard.

Around our house, Saturday breakfasts are a time to relax. So I like to serve my family's favorite French toast topped with this homemade syrup. After such a satisfying meal, everyone slowly eases into their hectic day ahead.

And we thought blackberry jam was only for toast. Here it is stirred up with ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, cayenne and red wine vinegar. The result is a sweet, pungent sauce that is great for pork, duck or ribs.

The sugar 'n' spice flavor of this syrup enhances waffles, griddle cakes, even cooked oatmeal. I often fix it for brunches.
