Directions

  1. PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  2. COMBINE sugar, cocoa and flour in a medium saucepan. Add milk and butter. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir a small amount of the hot filling into the beaten eggs. Return all of the egg mixture back to the saucepan, whisking constantly to incorporate. Fold in half of the cherry pie filling and the chocolate chips. Pour filling into the pie shell and bake for 35-40 minutes or until set. Cool and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  3. SPOON whipped topping over pie then artfully arrange the remaining cherry pie filling on top.

This recipe is easy and turns out exactly like you want it to- great firm consistency after refrigeration( I refrigerated mine overnight before slicing) and tastes great! I even doubled the recipe to make two pies at once and they were both perfect. I did not put the whipped cream and cherries on top until right at serving and I put them on the individual slices already on plates to keep it from getting too messy when slicing. Family loves it! Definitely a recipe I will keep on hand.
