3stars for a good starter recipe but, I took the advice of others and added 1can of sweet corn, can of diced tomatoes, a splash of lemon juice and used Beef broth before I saw that others were using chicken broth. For those who like a meatier flavor, Beef was very very good! Served over tortilla chips and some members of my family enjoyed it wrapped in a tortilla with a dollop of sour cream and topped with mexican blend shredded cheese. VERY VERY good! Thank you! Will definitely make again.

I liked this for a quick easy meal that is really cheap. I did have to add cheese and picante sauce to make the dish really sing.

I don't eat alot of rice but I decided to make some jerk chicken and thought this would go great with it. It did! I added a can of stewed tomatos to it because other people suggested it and it turned out great! I will definately make this again!

Soul food that takes me back to my childhood. Simple, easy, and very satisfying. For a difference, add ham, or bacon, or ground beef, or chicken, or shrimp, or NOTHING! ;-)

Black beans and rice is one of my favorite combinations and this recipe proved to be a winner! I doubled up the cumin, and added some garlic powder and red pepper, only because I enjoy spices. Also, my rice was cooked and ready within 15 minutes. I enjoyed this recipe especially because of its healthy and a good source of fiber. I'll defintely make it again and again!

This dish is great...with the modification suggested on here. Diced tomatoes, garlic salt, lemon and more spices. Take the suggestion on here so you don't have a pan of plain black beans and rice.

I've made this twice now. I add a can of petite diced tomatoes and use brown rice. It's so-so to me, but my husband absolutely loves it.

A little spicy for the family, but can adjust that in the recipe. Other wise it was a hit.

This is such an easy cuban rice recipe! I can't believe it! So tasty, and so so good! I have a toddler, so easy on the cayenne pepper. Otherwise, will make this again!

4 stars as written, it's really a great base recipe. As is, it's a little bland. I added a can of corn, a can of diced green chiles, hot sauce, and extra spices that I had in my cabinet. I bet adding tomatoes and cheese would be good as well.

5 stars with modifications. I add fresh cilantro from my herb garden and plenty of lime juice. I also add cayenne pepper and some crushed red pepper flakes for a little heat. Serve with shredded cheese and sour cream on top to balance out the heat from the pepper. My husband loves it with white tortilla chips to scoop up the rice and beans. Absolutely simple and flavorful!

This was a good basic recipe. I altered it (which is why I only gave 3) with some bell peppers, corn and peas for color. For my non-vegetarian husband, I added chorizo sausage. But the base recipe is good.

Tailored this to my liking. Added a small can of tomatoes with jalapenos, doubled the cumin, used chicken broth instead of vegetable broth and tore up and added some fresh basil leaves toward end. This is a GREAT rice recipe! Thanks Robyn!

Made this last night for dinner and it was very, very good plus easy and quick. I subbed chicken stock for the veggie broth and needed to add more for the rice to fully cook. I added the beans and spices when I added the stock so the beans would cook down a little. I didn't add the cayenne but the flavor was still wonderful.

I needed dinner quick and didn't have many options- but knew I had rice and beans in the pantry- I was distracted by my child and put the beans and spices in right after sauteing the rice- it didn't matter! I added an extra dollop of broth just in case, and everything turned out delicious. So easy and good. A few dashes of Tabasco and a little bit of sour cream made for a yummy dinner.

This is one of my favorite recipes. The one change I make is that I usually add a 1/2 pound of cooked ground beef to give it a bit more substance. Love it!
