I love this soup and so does my son. I do use chicken broth instead of the veggie broth and I add a handful of fresh cilantro to the mixture when I put it through the blender. As my son likes it a little chunky I don't put both cans of beans through the blender. This soup is really fast, almost as fast as opening a can and very delicious!!

This soup is awesome, we eat it all the time! I reserve one can of beans and 1/2 of the salsa from the blender and just put them straight into the saucepan. It gives the soup some chunks so that it's not a puree. So easy and so good!

Super quick, super easy, and super good!!! I doubled the recipe for three of us and we each had a nice BIG bowl of soup as our complete dinner. Since we are all on South Beach, this was a perfect dinner!

Excellent soup. I added diced bell peppers, corn and onions to make it a little chunky and added an extra can of beans not mashed. Everyone loved it!

I always appreciate a simple, easy and of course, tasty recipe...and this is one of them! Like others, I've sauteed onion/garlic added cayenne, cilantro and added some rice and shredded cheese with each serving. Very satisfying and adaptable. After making it a couple of times with medium salsa, I decided to try hot salsa and this made it even better!

Five stars for simplicity and taste. This was so easy, quick, and yet very tasty. I also used chicken broth because that's what I had on hand and I did leave some of the beans whole. I served this with some homemade wheat tortillas. I'll keep this recipe.

My version was ***** but I made a few changes inspired by the comments of others. I started by sauteeing 1 garlic and 1/2 chopped onion in olive oil, then I added rinsed beans (reserved about a cup for later), the salsa (Herdez brand), cumin, and chicken stock (didn't have veggie). Once hot, used the immersion blender and then added back remaining beans. Final touches were chopped green onion and cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime. Amazing, and very fast. Good with sour cream but a little cheddar on top was also a nice addition. It is a bonus that most of the ingredients are easy to keep on hand in the pantry.

I loooove this soup! I did listen to the reviewers and I added the juice of 1/2 of a lime, a lot of fresh cilantro, more cumin, and I sauteed fresh garlic and onions and threw those in there as well. I then fried some corn tortillas and shredded them and placed them on top of the soup! Delicious!

Excellent for a really quick recipe; only took 30 minutes start-to-finish, and likely you already have everything you need in your pantry. I added 1-2 cloves garlic and 1/2 of a fresh lime, squeezed. Instead of dirtying a blender to puree the soup, I used my immersion blender - it's a MUST-HAVE in your kitchen utensils, especially if you like a lot of soups.

I had dried beans which I soaked overnight and then boiled for about an hour. I made this recipe with the beans and it was wonderful.

This was the best black bean soup I've ever had. The only salsa I had was a Mango salsa, which ended up giving it such a nice taste. I actually think when I make this again (and I WILL make this again!) I will have to make sure I have the Mango salsa in house. My kids are gobbling this up as I'm reviewing it right now! I also can't believe how easy it was to make...always a plus on a school night! Thanks for sharing, this is definitely a keeper!

Had this tonight, and it's really tasty and quick. I did let it simmer longer than the recipe says to thicken up. I made changes based on necessity, rather than just to change the recipe. I used beef broth in place of veg cause that's what I had. I also didn't have salsa, so I subbed a well drained can of Rotel, then added a little onion, garlic, and cilantro to make it more salsa-ish. I used the immersion blender to get this pureed but still chunky. I garnished with shredded cheese as well as sour cream. This will be made again, as it was just the right amount of spicy and very flavorful. Thanks for an easy weeknight recipe.

Very delicious and quick recipe. I added some avocado instead of green onions as a topping. I also added some garlic salt and pepper to taste.
