I see nothing wrong with this recipe. It may not be the gooiest or most decadent brownie ever, but if you're looking for a chocolate fix that's not also an automatic guilty pleasure, give these a shot! I did add baking powder, as recommended by other reviewers, and upped the cocoa powder to 1/2 cup (I love me some chocolate). I found using kidney beans introduces even less 'beaniness' than black beans. I also added 2 tbsp cinnamon, which I do with all brownie recipes. I gave these to my roommates and no one questioned the recipe until they saw the bean cans in the recycle.

I made these out of curiosity after a friend mentioned that she had tried black bean brownies. They're delicious, and have gotten great reviews from several friends. I would recommend blending them, as I tried using a mixer for the first batch, and was left with a "beanier" consistency. When properly blended, there is no bean taste. I will definitely be making them again!

I came across this recipe when looking for a recipe to use up cans or beans in the pantry. I saw it and immediately said "yuck!" and moved onto more mexican recipes and rice and bean recipes. The next day I was surfing the web for ideas to use up my overstock of cans of beans and I came across a blog with someone raving about how good brownies made with black beans were. I thought it couldn't possibly be true, but I had everything in the house to do it, and wouldn't be too crushed if I wasted a can of beans, so I decided to make them. I read the other reviews and did add about 1/4 tsp of baking powder, and we don't drink coffee in our family so I didn't use any, and I increased the chocolate chips since I had about 1 cup that I needs to use up from the pantry. Holy cow, I couldn't believe it but these are AWESOME! I'm thinking that you could use way more than just chocolate chips on top. Andes candies chips, heath chips, nuts, caramel, pretty much anything would be good on these brownies. Seriously, try them, I really can't believe it!

I love this idea, but it didn't work out for me. I will admit that I doubled the recipe & know sometimes that will mess it up really bad. The smell was delicious & I was super excited when it was cooking, but when they were done (baked for 50 min) the edges had pulled away & the top was dry BUT the insides were like mud. I did taste the edge that was cooked to see if it would be worth baking longer & it tasted like a chocolate covered black bean. I added extra cocoa powder even! I will try again to see if it was just because I had doubled it. Hoping for success next time!!

Given that they contain an entire can of beans and no flour or butter, these were surprisingly good. They are definitely lacking something, though. The picky child in the house loves them, so they will be made again. I will try adding baking powder and stirring chocolate chips into the batter next time.

I was really suprised but there is no bean taste. I did add a teaspoon of baking powder and I will also make these again.

Maybe it was the brand of black bean I used (El Ebro), maybe not..this recipe was not for me. I went ahead and added baking powder as another reviewer on here suggested and it did come out cakey-er which I liked. I just didn't like the beans in there. I will definitely try this recipe again, next time I think I will crush the beans up or put them into a blender. It was a texture thing for me. I will make sure to post up when I try them out again. Great tips on here guys! Very helpful.
