This same recipe can be changed with different flavored cake mixes. Try caramel cake mix instead of chocolate and use chocolate syrup instead of caramel. I have used strawberry, orange and yellow and changed the toppings for each. Use your imagination!!!

This recipe is so simple and I get asked to make it so often, I can make it from memory now lol. The only thing I change is that I only use caramel in the holes instead of the sweetened condensed milk mixture.

This cake was really good. My daughter is telling me to rate it 5, but I can't rate a box cake that high. I bought the heath bits and added chocolate chips.

I have been making this for several years (it was the fad dessert at potlucks about 10 years ago where I live) and it truly is delicious, but very rich. I make mine with the devil's food cake recipe from this site, poke holes with the bottom of a wooden spoon, then pour a can of sweetened condensed milk on top. Some times I top with caramel, sometimes chocolate, sometimes I just leave the milk to do its magic. I usually use 4 heath bars--two on top of the cake, and two more on top of the whipped cream. I make my own whipped cream with one cup heavy whipping cream, 3 T of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla whipped at a high speed until stiff peaks. I drizzle chocolate sauce across the top for elegance and have even topped with strawberries. I ALWAYS store my cake in the freezer for an added dimension of chewiness--YUM! Very easy, delicious, and crowd-pleasing dessert.

This cake turned out great. I followed the suggestions of some of the other reiveiwers and it held together well. I did cut the oil in half and omitted the condensed milk. As soon as it was out of the oven, I poked holes using a chopstick and poured the caramel topping (at room temp) right on the cake. Once it was cooled completely, I frosted it with Cool Whip and drizzled chocoalate syrup on top. Everybody at worked loved it!

Excellent. Only changes I made were to microwave the sweetened condensed milk and caramel and instead of a devil's food, I made a "Black Magic Cake" (recipe on this site) as the base. I will definitely make this again.

I was pretty impassive about the whole caramel pouring thing. It didn't turn out as planned, but it still made the cake delicious. I designed the beautiful cake and instead of using chocolate toffee, I decided I would just make it an all chocolate cake. I designed it with Hershey's shavings, chunks, and made a crust out of the chocolate. The crust melted around the cake and it looks amazing. Yayy. >;D

I just made this cake again, and instead of using chocolate cake, I used a box of yellow cake mix. Also, because the cake is so rich, I cut down the amount of condensed milk, and caramel to half of what the recipe asks for. Also, I mixed the condensed milk, and caramel together in a saucepan, heated up for two seconds, and drizzled over the top of the cake. Also, this cake really tastes so much better, when it is cold!!

Mmmmm, this cake is great! I made it for my boyfriend and his roommate. They loved it! I had brownie mix at home so I just used that instead of cake mix and made them into Better than Sex Brownies... still wonderful!
