I am pleased with how these came out. I used 3/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup regular shortening, because that's what I had on hand. I also added some shredded coconut that I had leftover and wanted to get rid of. Also, I added some nutmeg. The only thing disappointing about these cookies is that they did not rise very much. They still tasted great, though. I think next time I will chill the dough.

After reading some of the reviews, I wasn't sure how this would turn out, but decided to try it anyway- I'm glad I did. My only change to the original recipe was that I added 1/4 tsp. baking powder to avoid any flatenning or spreading. I rolled my dough into 1 inch balls and they baked fabulously! Also, they have a great flavor. I will definately keep this recipe.

This is hands down the BEST cookie recipe ever! I have tried many different cookie recipes over the years and I like this on the best, even though I'm not partial to oatmeal cookies. The only change I made was to decrease the brown sugar by half a cup, so that I ended up using only 1 cup of sugar total since I prefer a less sweet cookie. It came out perfectly moist after 11 minutes of baking. I will be making a lot more of these over the holidays.

Wonderful....I followed the recipe exactly. Next batch I'm going to add 2 more minutes to baking time. I like my cookies with a little crunch.

Good, but not the best ever. I have no idea what I did wrong, but I expected a lot more. They do smell wonderful while they're baking, but they weren't chewy and had a slight crumbly texture. The taste was good, though. I think I may remake these and substitute more shortening for the butter.

Very nice cookie. I burnt the bottoms of the first ones by cooking on the bottom rack but they still tasted decent. The later ones I cooked on the upper rack and they were great.

Soft, chewy, and without any changes needed to the recipe. Make as is, don't worry about any reviewers suggestions, these cookies are wonderful.

The original recipe turned out to be way too sweet for me. The texture was great. I think next time I'll cut down the sugar by half.

I have been looking for the 'perfect' oatmeal cookie for years. The first time I made these, I had found it. The second batch...one week later, that's how good they are...I used two sticks of margarine instead of the butter and Crisco. They did not work. Still tated good, but the texture was all wrong. For a real treat, make just like the directions. Wonderful.

OMG! I don't normally care for oatmeal raisin cookies but these were FANTASTIC with the following changes from other reviewers. I used 3/4 c. butter and 1/4 c. plain shortening, 1-1/2 teas. vanilla, 1-3/4 c. flour, 1/4 teas. cloves and threw in a handful of chopped walnuts. Can you say YUMMY????
