Very good cookie. Beth always has the best recipes. Of course you should never substitute butter for shortening, like one other reviewer did. Shortening always gives a much more chewy texture to a cookie than butter. Butter makes a dryer cookie, like shortbread. The recipe is perfect just the way it is.

These are not your typical chocolate chip cookie; they are more like a scone. They went over well with my family, but were not what I was looking for. They were VERY fat and tall. They didn't spread much at all. I think if you reduce the amount of flour in them it could help. The flavor was nice, the texture was cakey. I prefer a less cakey texture. I also did not use shortening.(I am AGAINST transfat)I used all butter. They were very good, but like I said, not what I was looking for in a chocolate chip cookie.

The BEST EVER they don't last long at my house It doesn't matter how many I make. I never get close to 72 in one batch. I add a good heaping tablespoon of peanut butter Good with milk chocolate and white chocolate and peanut butter chips all together in the same cookie............ heaven

I hate being the bad review in a mess of good ones but these cookies turned out ... horrible. I followed the recipe exactly and they turned out salty! I melted butter and added sugar to the batter. That took care of the salt problem, but i was left with a disgusting after taste. The cookies were extremely hard, and my guests didnt like them. I guess i probably won't make these again. Try these cookies anyway, they worked for a lot of people, i guess i'm not one of them.

I was impressed by the amount of flour this recipe called for - I like my cookies cakey! After trying this recipe, I have to say it is the second worst I have ever tasted. (The first being the original Toll House recipe - blech) However, out of the 7 people that ate these cookies, about 3 of them did like them, so I guess to each his own. I thought the vanilla was maybe a little much...the cookies had a weird aftertaste, and didn't mesh well with the chocolate chip-iness.

Pretty good chocolate chip cookies. I did end up using butter flavored crisco. They are soft and fluffy. Make sure you mix it well enough. Plus they are not very sweet.

This recipe is awesome. I recently just started baking cookies from scratch and this is the third recipe I've tried - and the turnout is outstanding. I've made a few batches with this recipe, and I've added two tablespoons of milk to it so that the dough is a little moist. Thanks Beth!

As close to the "Perfect" chocolate chip cookie I've made yet. These were as attractive as they were tasty! When they first came out of the oven they looked like they would be cakey, but after they cooled a few minutes, they looked perfect. These are really good cookies. p.s. If you like something a little different, try using Kosher salt, you'll get little bits of salty sweetness......mmmmmmmmmmm delicious

I love to bake from scratch because I feel everything tastes fresher and better that way. This recipe was a disappointment. Though the cookies didn't turn out flat, which I dislike, the taste was *artificial* and they were a bit *oily* for my liking. I had never used butter flavored shortening before and I doubt I ever will again. Yuck.

These were good, better than most of the chocolate chip recipes on this site, but definitely not the best I've had. I will be still searching for "that" recipe.

These are pretty good cookies although I prefer mine a little crisper on the outside and chewier in the middle. I used an electric mixer as I always do to cream the butter and sugars. I actually used margarine (in place of butter) and butter flavored shortening. I left out the nuts. But then later added toffee chips to half the batter. I do appreciate that it actually made at least the 72 cookies it said it would, I so often end up with about half the number of cookies that a recipe states it will make. Doubt I'll make again but if you have all the ingredients go ahead and try!

This was the best I have had. I am really picky about my chocolate chip dough because I hate chocolate. I made these for a friend. They are perfect. I used all organic ingredients, Whole wheat pastry flour and no nuts. I also used a whisk to cream and my hands to blend. Delicious! Not cakey at all!

It's all about how you mix the ingredients! I can't believe how many reviews I read that say the dough/cookies were so dry or cakey. I have made these cookies so many times, and every time I make them they are soft, chewy, not too flat, and certainly not cakey. *Here's the trick: Use an ELECTRIC mixer to CREAM the butter, shortening, and sugars, and eggs. Then later, when all of the ingredients have been combined, use your HANDS to really get in that dough and work it well, like you're a kid again and playing with mud. Or better yet, let your kids do it! It's all about melding the ingredients! They won't turn out dry or cakey if the dough is mixed well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
