I can not begin to understand how anyone could give these cookies a bad review! They truly are wonderful. The dough is a bit unusual though. It doesn't seem to come together but rather looks like a bunch of pebbles. Dont worry when you scoop out the dough all you have to do is slightly compress it into a ball(gently just until it takes shape.) I typically make mine larger than a tablespoon. Probably between 1 tablespoon and a 1/4 cup. I like my cookies undercooked so I end up cooking them for the same amount of time the recipe calls for even though mine are larger. The only other thing I do differently is to cut the choc. chips down to 1 cup. Thats how my family likes their cookies. Thanks Beth for the great recipe!!!!

Deeelicious. I didn't have butter or butter flavoured chrisco so I substituted for 1 cup I can't believe its not butter & 1/3 cup regular shortening. It still turned out the way I expected soft & chewy. Yum Yum!!

I did not care for these cookies at all. They were very thick and cake-like--I like my cookies moist and chewy. Plus, they got stale extremely quickly.

I have to say, these are the most PERFECT cookies I've ever made... I changed the recipe to all shortening [sub it in for the butter] and I haven't put in pecans... but it works WONDERS... and you can toss in almost anything instead of the chocolate chips... [M&Ms, other candy bars chopped up, nuts... IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!]

It tasted good but didn't have a good texture. It also got flat in the oven and the baking time is a bit too much.

These were very good cookies, although I gave them only four stars because they dried out rather quickly. My husband gobbled them up, though, and he's pretty picky. Thanks for the recipe!

Excellent! Just like Subway cookies! Kids had fun helping with the whole process too. Only draw back was that they didn't taste as good the next day - could have just been my taster because it didn't stop everyone from eating them for days afterwards!

These are INCREDIBLE!! I never use any other recipe. This recipe makes alot of cookies. You really need to be careful on your baking time. I have overbaked by even 1 minute and it throws them off! They have great taste and texture!!!

Very good recipe if you like your cookies soft, thick and chewy. The unbaked dough is to die for!

THE BEST!!! I have had many "issues" with chocolate chip cookies. This recipe is perfect! I made two batches in one week! I did alter b/c I do not have butter-flavored shortening - I used 1 cup butter and 1/3 cup regular shortening. I tried with the white and semi-sweet swirled chips (only a 10-oz. bag) plus mini Hershey's Special Dark bars in chunks to make up the difference. Good-bye Toll House recipe!!

Though the cookies were "good," they did not live up to the 5 star rating. They were ok warm out of the oven, but they didn't keep their fresh, soft taste very long. Also, as another reviewer said, I would reduce the salt; I could definitely taste it in the cookie! I would suggest the Award Winning Soft Choc. Chip cookie recipe from this site.

I normally use the back-of-the-bag recipe for choco-chip cookies. Not any more -- these are so much better! I made big cookies using about 1/4C dough and after 9 minutes baking and 3 minutes cooling on the cookie sheet, the cookies had crunchy edges and a chewy middle. Have to make more as they didn't last long. Thanks!

Wow! These are incredible. This recipe makes a ton of cookies, so prepare to spend some time baking them all. 10 minutes was a perfect cooking time to me. They are very buttery. So far, the best recipe I've tried for my husband's favorite dessert. I will keep this recipe forever.

Thank you Beth for such a wonderful recipe. This will most likely replace the recipe I've been using since 5th grade. Don't change a thing. They came out absolutely awesome. Soft and light, and just as good the day after. A+
