They really are the best chocolate chip cookies. The only thing I did differently was to add cream of tartar to make it crack on top (as suggested by another reviewer). My brother had a birthday recently and all he asked for was for me to make him a huge batch of these cookies.

My new big thing is trying Crystal marg. in place of butter(from Costco in a rubbermaid container)It most definitely works for this one! I can hardly wait for my reviewers to get home from school to try them out. Chewy and crispy outsides, this is possibly the best I've ever made, I've made tons!

I swear I followed it to a "T" but the cookies came out flat and thin. I'm sure there was too much butter or not enough flour. The flavor is great! Everyone else seems to like the recipe-

these cookies are the best ever. they turn out great every time i cook them but i did have to play with the recipe a bit i reduced the baking soda to 1/2 teaspoon instead of a full one and i melt the butter so it comes out creamy. they also took about 12 min in my oven but other then that they were great and my whole family loves when i make them

I love these cookies. I enjoy baking and this is the best recipe I've found so far. I did, however, omit the step of dissolving the baking soda and just mixed it, along with the salt, into the flour before adding it to the bowl.I also used mini chocolate chips, just for the heck of it.

I thought they were going to come out a bit weird because adding the flour in the end made it seem as if it would be too dry BUT they came out perfect! I just sent my husband to work with a huge plater for his coworkers....I am can't wait to hear the wonderful comments :)

OMG these are amazing. They are the first chocolate chip cookies I've ever made that seemed to actually work out (yes I'm a terrible baker). I did leave out the nuts but YUM. One thing, I don't know if it was just my oven, but I have a gas stove and it took 14 min... I have this problem every time so it's probably my stove. Also, rolling the dough into a ball before cooking made smoother more perfect looking cookies.

I have to agree with Spy Glass - perhaps the high proportion of flour to the rest of the ingredients made these so boring. They didn't brown up that well (and my oven runs true to temp) and I ended up giving them away as "chocolate chip shortbread." I had high hopes for these but too bad I used my last 2 sticks of butter on them.

These were not the BEST cookie, though they were pretty good. I followed recipe exactly: They weren't crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, nor were they cakey. It was bizarre, I suspect due to the higher amount of flour. One reviewer mentioned they were like chips ahoy, and thats exactly how they were...Not cakey, not chewy, but strangely uniform throughout the entire cookie (I wouldn't use chips ahoy as a model for a good cookie-they're not that great) The dough part was not too sweet, but there wasn't an overpowering taste of flour, either. Another poster mentioned they didn't spread in the oven. No, they didn't, and pressing the batter down a little helped the second sheet look more like a cookie. They were edible, but lacking in familiar taste and texture. Will not make again.

Yummy! I followed the review about leaving out the water and putting in the extra vanilla, but I think I will try it with the water next time. It seemed just a tad dry. Other than that, it hit the spot!

This was an amazing recipe! I am a cookie addict, always looking for new recipes, and the only tweak I made to this one was I added a bit of cinnamon (probably 1/8th tsp or so, I just sort of throw it in at some point of the mixing process) and instead of the nuts, I added about 1 cup of white chocolate chips and WOW! Absolutely incredible. Thank you so much for posting it!!!

All I can say is ick. Double ick. I wanted to bake cookies for work. I followed the recipe exactly. The cookies baked up perfectly. Looked wonderful. Tasted okay. But left the most incredibly yucky aftertaste. So bad that I could not take the cookies to work. Husband thinks i MUST have done something wrong. Such a basic recipe ... but don't try it. Just not good.
