I found this one a while back and its now the only chocolate chip cookies i make. I get rave reviews every time i make them. Ive tried so many other recipes and none of them can stack up to this. I Follow the directions completely except leaving out the extra vanilla. I found if you let them cook for the entire time it says, they turn out cakey (which i love) But if your more of a gooey softer cookie lover just take them out earlier.

I'm not sure why...it doesn't seem all that different than your standard back of the bag recipe but these are awesome. My preference is not to have very flat cookies (as all-butter cookies can be), so I chill the dough then use a cookie scoop to make them into balls. I do have to cook mine longer because I use stoneware, it's about 16-18 minutes. I usually do half chocolate and half butterscotch chips.

I think the key to these awesome cookies is the technique in making the batter. Following the recipe exactly (minus the walnuts because we don't like nuts in our choc. chip cookies) made the smoothest, most easy to handle cookie dough I have ever encountered. They suprised me when they came out of the oven though. they are very dense so they did not flatten out very much and I thought I wouldn't like them, but they turned out to be divine!! I will never use any other chocolate cookie recipe again!

Pretty darn good!!! I even messed up by adding half the butter at the end...but still they were a success! In future I think they could use a little more walnuts.

These were good, as far as chocolate chip cookies go. They were crispy on the edge and chewier in the middle, although not really "chewy." I followed instructions exactly - they took me 12 minutes per batch. Kids liked 'em - I'm just a picky gal. :) Thanks for the recipe!

I've made many different recipes of chocolate chip cookies, I'm a chocolate chip cookie fanatic! This recipe was definitely one of my favorites. It turned out exactly as what was stated "crisp edges, chewy middles". I will no doubt make these cookies again! I didn't make any changes and they turned out wonderfully.

I've baked these cookies twice now and both times they have come out great! I personally love really big cookies and this recipe works out well for them. I just turn down the heat a bit to between 300 and 325 and cook them about 12 minutes. They still have those crisp edges and soft centers. All of my friends love these cookies! Whenever I have about an hour to kill I check my fridge, see if i have eggs, and then whip up some awesome cookies! Thanks a lot for the recipe!

I skip the walnuts and hot water (I sift the baking soda in with the flour) and add a little extra vanilla. Sometimes I cut up a fine chocolate bar instead of using the chips. These are, truly, the best chocolate chip cookies.

From reading other reviews, I used 1-1/4 cup of brown sugar and 3/4 cup of white sugar, and opted out of the water for a bit more vanilla extract. I also used less flour as advised by some, but I think I'll keep it in next time. The cookies spread a bit too much (when I expected it not to because of what others have said) but that can probably be avoided by refrigerating the dough a bit. Otherwise, not bad. Oh, I also used milk chocolate chips and they were amazing.

Pretty great cookie. The cookie is a little cake-like, but not so much that it's distracting. I did what another reviewer suggested and added 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar. I will say that I was able to throw these cookies together in no more than ten minutes, so the recipe couldn't be easier. And they came out delicious with a nice texture - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I opted not to include the walnuts (personal preference). Maybe next time I'll add a little spice and see how that comes out.

For a cakey cookie, this is the best. I added ginger, cardamom, and cinnamon for an extra kick and it was pretty delightful. I will make these again. Now to find a thin, crispy cookie recipe..

They really are the best chocolate chip cookies. The only thing I did differently was to add cream of tartar to make it crack on top (as suggested by another reviewer). My brother had a birthday recently and all he asked for was for me to make him a huge batch of these cookies.
