My 5 year old wanted to make Grandpa some chocolate chip cookies (as a bribe to paint her bedroom for her, lol) and we decided on this recipe, and success! I did of course make a few changes, lol...did 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar, 1/2 cup white...forgot to dissolve the baking soda in hot water, just added it to the flour and salt...added another half teaspoon vanilla to make up for the lost liquid...and all we had were pecans instead of walnuts...baked mine on parchment paper, and with my tricky oven, the batches took about 11 minutes total. These are REALLY really good cookies, crispy on the outside, chewy goodness on the inside. Might be a slight touch too sweet for some, I have a sweet tooth and these were boderline, I don't think decreasing the sugar a bit would hurt. Thank you Dora, for posting a great recipe that is infinitely adaptable to individual tastes!

By far the best recipe I have ever used. Ovens very, so I only cooked mine for 8 minutes using a heavy cookie sheet pan. Also let the cookies sit on the pan for 2 minutes before moving to a wire rack. I also divided the recipe after adding the chocolate chips and put 1/2 cup of finely chopped pecans instead of walnuts and they were still excellent! I will have to say though the cookies with the pecans were the best. Thicker, chewy and gooier than just the chocolate chips!

They were pretty good. I also think they are a little too sweet. I used semisweet morsels and refrigerated for a few hours. I measured by the spoonful, rolled in a ball and then slightly flattened on the cookie sheet. They all came out to be about the same size. Baked for 11 minutes on parchment paper.

These were a huge hit. They're also a really good base for white chocolate macadamia nut cookies.

I thought these were very mediocre. I did add a little cream of tarter, which I think helped the texture, but they still ended up pretty flat. Taste was nothing exceptional. I am constantly on the lookout for a perfect chocolate chip cookie, and this is not it. This one is passable, like I wasn't embarrassed to give it to someone, but I would make the toll house recipe before this one next time.

made 1 dozen instead of 24...subbed 1/3 of the flour for ground oatmeal, used 3/4 cup chips instead of 1 cup, 1/4 cup walnuts

I thought these might have been the ones to knock off my very fav chocolate chip cookie (and my basis for a "5" rating) "Half and Half's"...then Mr. LTH took a bite and didn't even finish his cookie! Now, that's not as big of a slam as it may seem as he's not all that big on sweets, but still! I liked them (really, what's not to like about chocolate chip cookies?!), but they haven't become the *go to*, so they earn a solid 4.

Excellent cookie recipe! I am an avid baker and have supplied cookies, cakes, pies, etc. to numerous events. The recipe is not so different from others, except for the dissolving of baking soda in hot water. I will remember this step going forward. Thanks for a great tip!

Made these tonight for my husband. They are incredible. I think that this recipe is better than Nestle's. I too increased the vanilla to 1 tablespoon. I also included 1 cup of mini semi-sweet chocolate chips. Crunchy, chewy, so delicious!

My new favorite cookie recipe! I have tried several recipes lately & these are by far the best - super chewy, nice and thin, soft, and not at all cakey. A little hard to tell when they're perfectly done, but well worth watching them closely! Yummmm.

These are very good. Not the "best" I've tasted, but good enough. Don't leave them in any longer than the recipe calls for or else they won't be nice and soft in the middle. My kids gobbled them up with no complaints :)

Great recipe.Perfect in taste and they look picture perfect:crispy along the edges, chewy in the center and golden brown all around. I've made them with and without walnuts and they still taste great each way.
