This recipe should be called the Oh My Gosh Bread! It is the first loaf of bread from my Breadman that I consider perfect. The crust is flaky and delicious. I didn't have either bread flour or bread machine yeast so I used active dry yeast and unbleached flour with no problems. The only mistake I made was starting too late which meant I was eating warm bread at 8:30 PM and had to try to sleep with that wonderful, fresh baked bread aroma floating through the house! I also used the British measurement for the flour as I had already made two loaves from another recipe that were dense and useless. Sure enough, the 3 cups weighed 400 grams. Follow the mixing instructions without fear, it works! 4/23/09, I made this recipe for the third time. It seems to be even more perfect this time! I added an additional 1/2 tsp salt but think I will cut that down to 1/4 tsp. I also used rapid rise yeast. No problem. I don't know why others are having difficulties. All I know is that I weigh my flour by first fluffing it with a whisk each time before I lightly spoon it into the measuring cup. Then I put it in the container for the scale. If it is measured properly it should equal 400gms. Also added an additional tablespoon of sugar. An amazing recipe. Simply amazing.

We've had bread machines for years, and this is the best white bread they've ever produced. Crusty, fluffy, YUMMY. I use 2 tsp of salt, the 1.5 lb loaf setting, and it fluffs up to the top of the pan.

So good and easy, I added some dried rosemary and basil and used the dough for pizza, it turned out so yummy!

Some thought it was a tad too sweet with the revisions by reviewers so I've cut back the honey to 3 Tbs.

This recipe was SO much better than the basic white bread recipe that came with my bread maker. I used a pinch of Stevia rather than the sugar, and was delighted with the results. My husband always complains about the crust of most breads, but was quite pleased with this one. Thanks!

It would be great if you were going for store bought white bread taste. It was nice and fluffy with the extra salt some reviewers suggested but I won't be making it again, if I want bread like this I will spend $1 at the store and save myself the effort.

So easy, and my kids are loving it. Made it as instructed the first time and got a perfect, tender white loaf that made AWESOME grilled cheese. Second time I took Bermyrose's suggestion to use honey and a bit of wheat flour. Even though I forgot the oil in the wheat batch, this is our new all time favorite sandwich bread. I will never buy at the store again! Thank you for sharing this great recipe.

Added another 1/2 tsp of salt and replaced 1/2 c of flour with wheat flour, otherwise I followed the recipe and directions and came out with an excellent loaf of bread. Will definitely make again.

Great tasting bread. I added extra salt as some of the other reviewers recommended, but the bread still did not rise very well - I think it might be my machine. Regardless, the taste of the bread is wonderful and I'm going to make french toast tomorrow morning with the bread. Thank you for the wonderful recipe.

I am a newbie bread baker and even I paused when I read to add the yeast to the water first, as this is contrary to every direction I've read. I am converted to this method! I have never had such a successful loaf of bread before! It rose quite high, giving that distinct "loaf" shape. I added some vital wheat gluten flour to my plain flour, and a bit more salt. No more box mixes for me... now I know what's going into the bread, so I can experiment more. Very excited about this recipe!

It must be my bread machine (Welbilt ABM4900) but I tried this recipe twice and both times came out rock hard. I don't think it rose at all. The second time I made sure that the yeast wasn't the problem and bought yeast esp. for bread machines but still had the same problem.

I used this recipe with whole wheat flour as my first recipe with my toastmaster bread machine. And, I wish I could have tasted it warm, because I am not sure if I care for it with the wheat flour. I will have to make a batch with regular flour this weekend. But, I love how it didn't require any eggs or milk.

the bread did fall a little but nothing too drastic. The taste was just ok, like store bought white bread. was not as fresh/soft the next moring.
