I have made this recipe for a few years now and never had a bad loaf! This works equally as well using the Express Bake cycle found on many machines. This way I am able to have it ready in just over an hour. I always preproof my yeast now as it makes the dough just right. Add any herbs you want to make this your own.

I almost gave up on my bread machine until I tried this recipe. It produced the best bread I've tasted so far from my bread machine. I took the advice of other reviewer when I baked it the second time by putting 3 tbs of sugar and 2 tsp of yeast. It produced a much better bread from my bread machine. Definitely recommend this recipe to other bread machine newbies.

I haven't had success with my bread machine until I made this bread!! I've made this twice now, and it's turned out perfectly, it's the best recipe, and very easy.

Well I have never been able to make good white bread until now! Did what another reviewer said and added extra salt, and the bread came up to the window. I don't ever let my machine cook all the way though, usually cut out about l5 minutes of cooking as bread is done. BEST BREAD IN THE MACHINE YET!!!

This was my first time using a bread machine too and I also put the extra salt however I was a little worried that it had not rose enough because at its highest point it was just barely at the top of the inside basket and that happened during baking. But when it was all done apparently that was enough because it was really good. Next time I am going to use the original amount of salt.

This was my first time using my bread machine. I am SO glad I found this recipe and read all the reviews. I added 1/2 tsp salt like a lot of reviewers suggested. I also used all purpose flour because that's all I had. It came out great! We ate the whole loaf in an hour! Then after the bread machine cooled down, I actually made ANOTHER loaf for this morning.

Recipe so perfect it earned my first ever review. Followed recipe exactly, but used all purpose flour and only had yeast bought in bulk so didnt know how much a "package" contained I used 1 1/2 teaspoons yeast. Raised perfectly. It is best bread machine recipe ever!

I loved it! Hadn't had any luck with my new bread machine's recipe. Was about to contact the company. But after trying this recipe out, I am completely satisfied. This bread raised beautifully and was light and delicious. Thank you so much, will be using this recipe from now on, just will substitute some whole wheat for white flour to see if it works as well.

the previous review by KIMALLI1 pretty much describes my experience with this recipe. brand new yeast, no rise, lumpy, dense, crunchy crust, and no idea why I followed every direction. This was my first experience using the bread machine so i hope i find a better one so i can continue to use it. it smelled pretty good though!

This DID NOT work for me. I followed the directions precisely and ended up with a lumpy loaf that did not rise (made with brand new yeast). This is the 5th bread machine recipe I have tried and was the only one that did not rise. The loaf ended up being dense with a crunchy crust. I have already thrown this recipe away. :(

Lovely bread, my 4th loaf EVER, and the only one that came out of my new bread machine fluffy. (Never baked any bread before the bread machine) I did as the recipe said, starting the yeast with the water and sugar 1st. I adjusted as many reviewers said, using 1.5 tsp of salt, and I used olive oil instead of vegetable oil. I also used 2.75 c. all-purpose flour because that's what I have. (I'll get bread flour next trip to a food retailer) and added some herbs (Italian seasoning, fresh rosemary) for a less bland loaf. Due to my previous "experiments", I was on my way to pre-activating the yeast, so this recipe fell right in with what I was thinking anyways. I will from now on ALWAYS pre-activate the yeast for yeast breads. Yay!

Didn't have any problems with this bread in my machine...absolutely delicous! Crusty on the outside and soft in the middle, not a heavy bread.

This bread is great. I've tried several different recipes since I received my bread machine and this was the best. I was concerned about the yeast being put in first with the water since it contradicted my machine's instructions, but the bread was the best I've made so far. This will be made often.

I make this about twice a week for our sandwich loafs. Make the dough in the bread machine, but finish it off in the oven. If you do this, cut a slit down the center and allow the dough to rise in bread pan for 40 minutes. I brush with milk and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Also I put a cake pan filled with water underneath the bread as it bakes. Perfect every time. I've also used the dough to make rolls (was pretty good that way, but much better as loaf)

Unbelievable! I am both astounded and thrilled to death! My first loaf of bread from this recipe came out of my machine about half an hour ago...and I LOVE it!! I had a bread machine years ago, and gave it away because no one wanted to eat the heavy, tough and dense bread that came out of it. I recently bought another machine because the closest grocery store is 45 minutes away AND I had found this recipe and it gave me hope that not all bread machine bread is tough and chewy. This recipe tastes NOTHING like others I have tried. I am sooo excited!! I was concerned about the over-rising of the bread, so I did add 1/2 tsp. salt to keep that from happening. I love the smell, the flavor, the crisp crust, the wonderful soft insides. It's not the least bit tough!! I am soooo excited! Thank You!!!!

If you're on the fence... try this recipe. Everyone is right. You cannot mess it up. I did not have Bread Flour... I used AP... and it came out great. I didn't use vegetable oil, I went with olive oil. I also followed the lead of so many of the reviewers, I added an extra 1/2 tsp of salt. If you're wondering, this is not a dense textured bread. It is very soft. It's almost Brioche like. I know it will become a regular at my house.

Love it!!!! Make sure you add an additional 1/2tsp of salt. It helps keep the bread raised instead of deflated.
