Very good...I was just trying to use up an extra can of black beans. I didn't have cilantro but did add a splash of lime juice. I will make again. Quick and easy!!!

I added cumin, lime juice & real bacon bits...sweated the onion, garlic & spices in EVOO for a few minutes & then added the rest of the ingredients & simmered for an hour or so. It ran dry a couple of times so I added vegetable broth. I didn't have any fresh cilantro so I used cilantro-in-a-tube...it's in the refrigerated section of your produce department. Served it w/ Mojito Chicken (from foodnetwork), mango slices, Mangoritas (from this site) & Impossible Coconut Pie I (also from allrecipes)...great dinner that my guests reallly enjoyed. Thansk for the recipe!

Cooked for about 45 minutes, added cumin, ground red pepper, and garlic powder during cooking. Used more cilantro than called for. Very good - my boyfriend who was very leary of the beans at first ate three helpings.

Really delicious. I used TWO cans of beans which worked out great since it cooked down so much. I ended up letting simmer for an hour as others suggested. For the spices at the end I added a good tablespoon of cumin, a 1/4 cup (at least) of cilantro, a sprinkling of cayenne, squeeze of half a lime, and salt to taste. Next time I'll put in my slow cooker!

This is a staple bean dish in my house! I usually make it along side Cilantro-lime rice and then on burritos. They taste just like one of those famous chain burrito places. Thanks for the recipe.

These were quite tasty. I ended up using red pepper flakes instead of cayenne pepper and I didn't measure it so I ended up using a few too many and it turned out a little spicy. That was obviously my fault though and other than that I thought they were quite good. This is a good way to spice up black beans.

I liked this. I ate it with the Asian Coconut Rice recipe and a piece of salmon. (Asian and Spanish food, interesting combination.) I think it needed a little more flavor, so next time I make them I'll add a little more salt and possibly a little more garlic.

Excellent. Although, they can be ready in the amount of cook-time the recipe indicates, I found the beans were a little tough and the onion still a little too crisp for my liking. With 40 minutes cooking, however, they were done to perfection! Be careful not to burn them, though. We used left-overs (I doubled the recipe) on burrito night! They were even better the second time around!

Delicious! My family likes REALLY spicy so we added just a touch more of the garlic and cayenne. These were fabulous! We let them simmer for over 30 mins so they would thicken up just a bit. Thanks for sharing!

After simmering these on the stove for the recommended time, I thought they were really blah. I put them in the crock pot on low for 2 hours and that seemed to bring the flavor out much better. My hubby loves black beans and thought these were good, but I am still going to search for a recipe with a bit more flavor, or at least try these again with some lime juice.

Just okay. Not as flavorful as I hoped, but good mixed in rice for tacos. I added lime juice per other reviews. I'll probably try this again, but next time add more cilantro, garlic, cayenne, and maybe some cumin.

I just tried this recipe with fantastic results! I made a few modifications and additions, however. I used fresh black beans I prepared in the morning and replaced cayenne with a dash of chili powder. Then I allowed everything to simmer for about 15 minutes for the flavors to infuse and blossom. :P At about 15 mins, I added my secret ingredient: the juice of a lime and proceeded to simmer for about 5-10 mins more. The lime juice tied everything together nicely! Very tasty!

Five stars with the changes I made. Didn't add cayenne (didn't have) and was out of garlic. Seasoned with adobo and added 1 small can of tomato sauce. SO good!! Tasty recipe that can be easily be altered. Oh and I agree with letting it simmer for two or so hours. Really brings the full flavor through.

Maybe I'm just a weenie, but I thought it was a little spicy and wish I would have added the cayenne pepper "to taste". Other than that, this is a very good basic black bean side dish, I'm excited to try adding some different spices next time! I made it with "Salsa chicken" on this site, and it was dee-lish.
