This is a tasty, simple bean recipe. I used white beans and simmered for probably 20 minutes, or more. I loved the creamy texture. I want to try with black beans next. We had this with Dominican chicken, brown rice, sliced avocado and fried plantains.

I started with this recipe ,then after a few times I started experimenting. I add chicken broth and puree half of the beans to make soup. I have also added cooked bacon and mashed all of it to make refried beans, both are loved by all.

Thank you, thank you. I could never make good beans until this recipe. I added tomato sauce and green chiles b/c I like them saucy and it was wonderful.

This is a quick and easy side dish for all types of Mexican food. My family especially likes it with chicken quesadillas. I make it for lunch sometimes and serve it over brown rice. As a personal preference I add cumin and leave out the cilantro. There's just something about cilantro......

This was surprisingly flavorful, but the cilantro is definitely a must. I mixed together everything except the cilantro and let it simmer for an hour while I waited for my husband to come home with the cilantro. I tasted it while I was waiting and was totally not impressed. It just tasted like starchy bean liquid with a heat from the cayenne pepper. After I added the cilantro and let it simmer for awhile, it was a whole different taste--a hundred times better. We both liked it, and then I added some lime juice, and that is a great optional addition, but following the recipe and using the cilantro is a must.

These were sooo good. I sauteed the onion, then the garlic in a bit of olive oil first. Keep in mind that it does not make a great deal of beans. Next time I will probably triple the recipe. My husband is Mexican and loved it.

This was awesome! Will definately make with every Mexican dish from now on. No left overs. For my picky (6&3) kids who do not like spices, I added a little sour cream to offset any heat. They loved these.

Very nice indeed, garnished with the pico de gallo recipe on here. Instead of cilantro (a friend doesn't like it) I used some flat leaf parsley and cumin.

Really good! I used a bit of lime juice, put in more garlic, and substituted the cayenne (didn't have any) with some red pepper flakes and chile powder. Still could have used a little something. Perhaps it's more tasteful with the cayenne.

Great tasting beans! I tried adding 1/2 a lime like others have mentioned.... was not too thrilled with the results. I even doubled the recipe, and left the lime at 1/2 and still all we could taste was the lime! I think this recipe was just fine without it!

Tasted before and after addition of cilantro and it makes the dish, don't leave it out. Didn't use the cayenne, used Hot chile sauce instead, tasted like restaurant quality, served topped with chilled diced tomatoes to balance the heat
