This is a great recipe! I'm in university and my friends say they're the best chocolate chip cookies they've tried here yet. I find that using real vanilla extract makes a big difference in the flavouring so I make a bit of a dent in my food budget for these cookies. Completely worth it.

2 cups of flour is NOT ENOUGH.... . I was making them for a party and can't even take them. I've used many recipes on here with great success. They were paper thin, falling apart when I put them on the cookie rack. Way too greasy. They spread all over the pan and got so flat. This is what I've always hated about cookies with all butter. This is way off, possibly because of the extra egg yolk too. After the first pan, I added a touch more flour and they were a bit better. I think it should be 2-1/2 cups of flour. I've been baking for years and consider myself an excellent baker and I followed this recipe perfectly. Anyhow, that's my opinion. Will never try this again. Good luck to you that do try it and increase your flour. Maybe refrigerate the dough and don't melt the butter.

This is America's Test Kitchen's "Thick and Chewy CCC" recipe, and I have to say, this is the best CCC recipe ever. I will never use (or even look for) another CCC recipe in my life. Between the melted butter, brown sugar, and extra egg yolk, this makes one delicious, chewy CCC. In the ATK cookbook, they instruct you to roll the dough into balls before placing on the baking sheet. This helps create beautiful, perfectly round cookies. Every time I make these, I get rave reviews, and people always comment that they're so pretty and perfectly round (thanks to the rolling into balls). I only change 2 things: I roll heaping 1/8-cup balls of dough, because I find the final cookie to be a more appealing size, and I use less chocolate chips, but only because I like my cookies to have some bites that contain no chips. I'm just unusual like that.

Amazing!! no words can describe the perfection of this cookie. I used salted sweet cream butter and let the dough chill for about 10 min. Everyone loved them. They were gone before they had a chance to cool.

OMW! These are THE BEST cookies EVER! I added walnutts because I had some on hand. Also, used milk chocolate chips(again what I had). I used an ice cream scoop and got 30 large cookies. This recipe is a true gem!

1st batch is out and 2nd batch is in the oven! The smell is just delicious and I had one straight out from the oven and it was crispy at the edge and soft and slightly chewy in the middle. It is great. However, next time, I may reduce the amount of sugar somewhat as it's a bit too sweet. Also, if you are using brown sugar, best to use the more fine type as I used the granular type and it came out the sugar hasn't completely dissolved. All in all, it's a keeper.

I made this recipe twice - once exactly as it is here, and once with salted butter (instead of unsalted), no added salt later, and brownulated sugar instead of normal packed brown sugar. Honestly, they turned out better the second time.
