Excellent stew! After reading reviews made a couple of suggested changes. Coated beef with flour, garlic powder and pepper before browning. Used beef broth instead of bullion. Had no wine in house (teenagers!)so grabbed a little single serve bottle of cabernet and tossed that in. Used flour to thicken. Delicious!!!!

This was delish! I substituted 1/2 the water with beef broth, and threw in about 1/2 frozen/thawed peas about 15 minutes before we were ready to eat. My family thought that it was the best beef stew that I had ever made. The left-overs were a hit, too! I'll definitely make again. The meat was sooooo tender!! All of this time, I thought that the slow cooker was the only way to go. This recipe blew the slow cooker away! Anxiosly awaiting the next chilly day!

Ok, I know many of you hate when people alter the recipe, but here's what I did. I scaled the recipe in half, first of all. I added 3 cloves of chopped garlic while sauteing the beef, as well as some Montreal Chicken Seasoning. I used fresh rosemary and parsely (three times the amount of dried herbs). I used beef broth instead of the boullion, 1 and a half cans, to be exact. I put in the celery, carrots, and onion first, then added the potatoes during the last half hour of cooking. I also added cut green beans. I doubled the amount of starch as well. The end result was phenomenal. My boyfriend said it was the best beef stew he'd ever had!

This was pretty good. I had to keep adding water though because it would simmer out. By the time we ate it, it was pretty salty so next time I will cut back on the boulion. I also used leftoever roast that I shredded instead of stewing meat. Overall it was good. Will use again.

I added a can of diced tomatoes ...it added a real hearty flavor to the stew! (I also tripled the cornstarch/water.)

very good recipe. I used alot more cornstarch than it called for per other reviews and I cooked it for about 20 min less than required and it came out great. The meat was soooo tender!

Very good standard recipe. Just got done eating! I used 4tbs of corn starch and water and still could have been much thicker. I like thick stews. This is a classic dish with fresh, clean flavors. I will add to it next time like some suggested. It's a great baseline as listed.

Great recipe! I followed the recipe pretty much. Added a little more corn starch to thicken and a bay leaf. Also, sauted the onions with the beef while browning. Dip some garlic bread in the juice. You will love it. Enjoy!

Rosemary really adds an excellent flavor and I love the consistency of this stew. I'm not a big fan of soupy stews, so I love this recipe!

This was flavorful and delicious! I made the additions that Chuck suggested. Flouring and seasoning the beef first and later adding the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce with the liquids. The only other change I made is a couple of bay leaves. My favorite bite is the very last with all the broth, pieces of veggies and flavorful goodness!

Very tasty and easy to make. I just made one change; instead of using bouillon cubes and water, I used 4 cups of low-sodium beef broth. Still worked!

A wonderful recipe! I did do some altering according to my family's taste. I added double the veggies and added extra meat. I also used 1 can of beef broth in place of the water. For a thicker "stew-like" broth I tripled the cornstarch. Even the pickiest family members loved it!

I am culinarliy challenged but wanted to try some new recipes for my family. This recipe was great!!! I did not use the bullion cubes though I used an organic beef broth.( less saltier) I also took other users advice and rolled my beef in flour and garlic powder. Also I added frozen broccoli to the stew in the last 20 minutes. For a thicker stew I used 5 tsps of cornstarch and water. Will definitely make again.

my kids love this stew so much, i've been making it several times. The only modification i make is that i dont use oil,i just put a little bit of water to cook it since the beef has oil on its own already.
